General Richard Butler, Sons of the American Revolution Chapter, participate in Festival of Trees

When visitors to the 2016 Butler County Chapter NSDAR Festival of Trees happen upon the General Richard Butler, Sons of the American Revolution chapter decorated but unlit tree, be advised it really is by design. Members at a recent meeting voted to participate in the tree festival as a way to draw attention to the newly formed chapter named for Revolutionary War officer General Richard Butler. Butler County was in turn named in his honor.

It was decided to include decorations that may have been used during the 18th and 19th centuries. Members of the group marched in the recent veterans parade as well.

On hand, Friday morning at the Friendly Furniture building were several charter members of the local chapter who saw its formation during 2016. The local chapter welcomes members who have successfully completed an application process at the state and national levels. Applicants must prove a direct lineage to at least one Revolutionary War soldier.

The Festival of Trees, complete with an opportunity to vote for the viewer’s favorite, runs through Sunday. Hours are Friday and Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 1-5.
