Lawrence is a U.S. Army veteran who served from 1983 to 1986. He earned his VFW eligibility by serving in Korea, where he was awarded the Korean Defense Service Medal.
For all the organization already does for others every day, Lawrence now wants the 1.2 million-member VFW to “Make It Happen” even more in every community across the nation and world.
When asked Lawrence stated that his objectives are to support the 6,400 existing VFW Posts,  the recruiting and retention of new members,  and recovering missing and unaccounted-for service members from all wars.
