Five Questions: Tim Flener/Candidate for Butler County Judge-Executive

Background:

Hello Citizens of Butler County. I am Tim Flener, your Republican Candidate for Butler County Judge Executive. My wife is Lisa Flener, we have been married for twenty-six years and have two wonderful children Kenzie (21) & Kenten (19) both of Morgantown. We currently reside at 1977 Possum Hollow Road. I am the brother of Todd Flener (Amy) & Tosha Sublett (Eric) all of Morgantown. We owned Aberdeen Grocery for over twenty years, I am currently the manager and operator at Aberdeen Grocery.

Question 1: Broadly speaking, what are the primary reasons you are seeking for which you are running?

There is a major growth needed in our county that is vital to the growth and well-being of all of our communities. There is an immediate need for industrial growth in our county.  If we can install a secure industrial base here in our hometown that will provide jobs to the upcoming generations. We will then be able to retain those individuals to stay and establish their own families here rather than move away to other areas.

My second concern is to improve the internet speeds for everyone county wide. I feel like I am ready to take on each task moving forward to better Butler County.  Many government forms, job applications, news media outlets, and the basic need for children to have access for school are all internet based.  We need this service improved in order to make the daily lives of our citizens better.

Question 2. What specific qualifications do you have that would allow you to be effective in the position you are seeking?

I graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1990 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science & Agriculture. A couple years later I became the owner and operator of Aberdeen Grocery and was in this position of ownership for 20 years. Other than my work experience, I have done a lot within my community that has granted me the good fortune of getting to know several people in our county. I have been a deacon at my home church for over 15 years. For three years I was the assistant coach for the archery team as well. As I don’t feel the Judge Executive position is all about the degree one has but rather the mindset, will and determination to push our county forward.

Question 3. Identify the key issue impacting the position for which you are running and describe how you would propose to address them as a public officeholder?

As I stated before, my main concern is securing long term industries for our county. Several of our children that join the workforce after graduation have limited options in our county and are forced to either move away for jobs or to commute. If we are able to attract more industries to our county we would be able to retain future generations to establish young families here to contribute to our community.

As Judge Executive I would explore all options that are available to us in order to attract more jobs to our area.  Avenues such as grants, community forums, networking, and working with other branches of our government to seek out opportunities that would attract more industries to our home town.

Question 4. As a potential or current elected official, what do you see as the proper role and function of local government?

Being a voice for the individuals in our county and using their suggestions for work for the betterment of our county as a whole, is what I feel is the proper role and function of our local government.   The Judge Executive should actively be working in the community to aide in its growth, so that he is then able to take what he has heard and learned from the local communities back to the Fiscal Court so all can be able to make an educated decision.

Question 5. What is your long-term vision for Butler County? For example, what kind of community would you like ours to be in ten years?

It is a prime time for Butler County to grow.  Within the next ten years I believe having more industry will give the people of Butler County wonderful jobs. Job growth that can offer high wages will in turn bring more taxes, which will allow us to invest in more activities and structures within our communities. With more cash flow in our county we will then have the ability to establish new programs, improve our parks, and update our infrastructure.   I think ten years from now our county will be doing wonderful if we all stick together with one mind set and move forward from here. We live in a wonderful place and seeing us grow from here is my main goal.

Thank you for allowing me to be interviewed and giving me the opportunity to submit my goals if elected for Butler County Judge Executive. I humbly ask that on November 6, 2018 when you vote, please choose your Republican Candidate, Tim Flener as your next Butler County Judge Executive!
