The Butler County Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution hosted the Annual Memorial Day Program in the courthouse lawn on Monday at 11:00am. Lynda Knight, Butler County NSDAR Regent, opened the 2012 program paying tribute to the Civil War Veterans of Butler County.

A large group gathered on the courthouse lawn on Saturday for the unveiling and dedication of a historical marker for Bishop John Monroe Moore. Grady Roger Givens, Butler County Historical Marker Chairman, welcomed the group.

Kentucky had a primary election on Tuesday, May 22, and only 6 percent of Butler County's registered voters showed up at the polls. Since no locally contested races were on the ballot, voters only had a presidential primary from which to choose.

After a lengthy three-hour work session, the Morgantown City Council met in a special called meeting Thursday night. Selected city budget issues were on the agenda.

Morgantown Mayor Linda Keown said the city is looking at "all options" when it comes to the issue of whether or not to consider eliminating the city's police department in favor of contracting with the Butler County Sheriff's Department for polices services inside city limits.
