Charley Biggs' open for business

If you smell a crispy, delicious smell as you're driving through Morgantown you may just be driving by the new Charley Biggs' restaurant that opened last Tuesday. Over 1,900 customers tried out the chicken, pulled pork, catfish, and desserts offered at the restaurant in just the first three days. Owners James and Jean Beattie have been very pleased with the tremendous response from the community over their first few days of business.

"We had 681 people the first day, 650 the second, and almost that the third day," said Jean, "Our staff is amazing, they didn't really know anything coming into this and they have got a serious crash-course on serving chicken. We've had some long lines the first couple of days and we want to thank everyone for being understanding."

The turnout has also impressed members of the Charley Biggs' Corporate Office. Corporate Trainer Jordan Brown, who has been in Morgantown the first few days of business, was impressed with turnout so far.

"This store in particular has done really well. They've had record sales which has far surpassed our expectations," said Brown.

Customers can not only choose from the chicken offered by Charley Biggs', but they also have the option of eating from Jimbo's Smoker or Jeannie's Sweet Treats. James runs Jimbo's Smoker and Jean makes all of Jeannie's Sweet Treats. Jeannie's Sweet Treats is KY Proud, which means that they buy all of their produce locally.

"I am getting all of my fruits for my desserts here local," said Jean, "We have strawberries from Dunbar, tomatoes from Roundhill, blueberries, blackberries, and apples." She added, "We also have an apiary, bees, at home so we'll have honey, jellies, jams, and preserves that we'll make. I have a home processor's license and label so we'll have that in here before long."

The ceiling tiles hanging in the restaurant were decorated by the students at Morgantown Elementary School after the Beattie's donated a locking cabinet full of art supplies to the school.

"The kids did a great job painting the tiles," said James, "We really didn't know what to expect but they turned out great."
