BC Extension/Farm Bureau Field Day September 5th

The Butler County Extension Service/Butler County Farm Bureau Field Day will be Thursday, September 5, 2013 at the Banock Masonic Lodge.  The Banock Masonic Lodge is located on Dexterville Road in northwest Butler County.  Registration will begin at 3:30 p.m., with the program starting at 4:00 p.m.

Farms with over 1320 Gallons of Fuel and Oil Storage Must Have SPCC Plan

Farm Fuel Storage Facility

Farms with over 1,320 gallons of above ground fuel and oil storage must have a Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures plan.  This is a regulation that is part of the clean water act.  Dr. Doug Overhults, from the UK College of Agriculture, will be at the Extension Service and Farm Bureau Field day on September 5th to discuss the issue and answer farmer's questions.  The Extension Field Day is September 5th at 4:00 p.m.

4-H Project Show ‘Craft Days’ Camp – June 24-28

The Butler County 4-H Project Show ‘Craft Days’ Camp will be June 24-28 at the Butler County Extension Service from 9 a.m.—3 p.m.  We will have many projects available including:  woodworking, needle stitching, cooking, nature crafts, photography, painting, and much, much more. 

This will be an EXCELLENT opportunity to make a project for the Butler County 4-H Project Show held during the Catfish Festival!  All ribbon winners in the 4-H Project Show win COLD, HARD CASH and get to show at their project at the Kentucky State Fair in August.

Kentucky FSA State Executive Director Urges Producers to Enroll in DCP/ACRE

USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Kentucky State Executive Director, John W. McCauley today encouraged farmers and ranchers to enroll for the 2013 Direct and Counter-Cyclical Payment Program (DCP) or the Average Crop Revenue Election Program (ACRE) before the deadline. Producers who wait until the last minute to sign up could face increased waiting time in FSA county offices.“We understand that producers have gotten busy, but they can’t forget to visit their county office and sign up for DCP or ACRE,” said McCauley.

4-H Summer Camps Provide Summer Learning Experiences

As school doors close for the summer, the learning opportunities continue for the thousands of youngsters who will include a 4-H camp experience as part of their upcoming summer vacation plans.

While some new twists have been added to camp activities, the basic goals of the 4-H camping experience still include lessons on appreciating the natural environment, making new friends and learning lifetime hobbies.

USDA Announces Final Call for 2012 Census of Agriculture
