Butler County Cattle Sale – March 9, 2013 Consigners Needed Now

The Butler County Stockman’s Association will hold their annual livestock sale on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Eva Hawes Ag Exposition Center in the Morgantown City Park.

Stink Bugs Moving Indoors

As the temperature drops, many insects will search for shelter for the winter months—many times in private residences. This year, people may notice a new insect coming indoors.

This insect is the brown marmorated stink bug, and University of Kentucky entomologists already are receiving calls from homeowners concerning its appearance and offensive odor, said Ric Bessin, Extension Entomologist with the UK College of Agriculture.

Come Learn How to Set a Quilt for Quilting

There are so many ways to finishing your quilt – tacking, hand quilting and machine quilting.
Barbara Gabbard, Butler County Homemaker and Craftsperson, will present a program on Saturday, November 3, 10 a.m. at the Butler County Extension Office.  Barbara will demonstrate tacking, hand and machine quilting.

FSA Acreage Reporting has New Deadline

USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Kentucky State Executive Director John W.McCauley, reminds producers that crop reporting deadlines for fall barley, fall wheat, other fall-seeded small grains and peaches have changed for the 2013 crop year. The new deadlines are:
December 15, 2012 - Fall Barley, Fall Wheat, and all other Fall-Seeded Small Grains
January 15, 2013 – Peaches
McCauley says farmers must file their reports accurately and timely for all crops and land uses, including prevented and failed acreage, to ensure they receive the maximum FSA program benefits possible.

FSA County Committee (COC) Voting to Begin November 5

  The Kentucky Farm Service Agency says ballots for the 2012 FSA county committee elections will be mailed to eligible voters on November 5. State FSA Executive Director John McCauley says FSA county committee allows producers to make important decisions concerning the local administration of federal farm programs.

 "I urge all eligible farmers and producers, especially minorities and women, to get involved in their communities by voting in this year's elections," McCauley says.

PUBLIC MEETING REGARDING THE HISPANIC AND WOMEN FARMERS AND RANCHERS CLAIM PROCESS

The USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA), Rural Development (RD) and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will attend a public meeting hosted by the River Valley AgCredit ACA. Each agency will provide program updates and John W. McCauley, Kentucky Farm Service Agency State Executive Director will discuss the Hispanic and Women Farmers and Ranchers Claims Process. The Claims period opened on September 24, 2012, and will close on March 25, 2013.

Kentucky’s retail food prices increase in third quarter of 2012

Louisville, KY (October 16, 2012) – The latest Marketbasket Survey, conducted by the Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation in September 2012, indicates that average retail food prices in supermarkets across the state have increased during the third quarter of the year. According to the survey, the total cost of 40 basic grocery items was $115.91. This total reflects an increase of $2.88, or 2.6 percent, from the same list of items reported in the previous quarter.

Butler County Rural Development Bean Luncheon - October 17th

The Butler County Rural Development Steering Committee will host its first bean luncheon on October 17th to raise money for Butler County Fair Premiums.  The Rural Development will offer brown or white beans, cornbread, a homemade dessert, and a drink for $5.  Meals will be available at the Extension Office or via delivery (for large orders) from 10:00 a.m. until all the beans are sold or 1:00 p.m. whichever comes first.  Please make plans to support your Butler County Rural Development Clubs and this important fund raising endeavor.

FSA Prepares to Issue CRP and DCP Payments

USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Kentucky State Executive Director John W. McCauley, announced that FSA will issue Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) and Direct and Counter-cyclical Program (DCP) payments during the first few weeks of October.
"FSA will issue the payments timely as long as all producer eligibility requirements are met," said McCauley.
