BC Extension/Farm Bureau Field Day September 5th

Extension Agent Greg Drake speaking at the 2012 Field Day.

The Butler County Extension Service/Butler County Farm Bureau Field Day will be Thursday, September 5, 2013 at the Banock Masonic Lodge.  The Banock Masonic Lodge is located on Dexterville Road in northwest Butler County.  Registration will begin at 3:30 p.m., with the program starting at 4:00 p.m.

This year’s Butler County Field Day will be very diverse.   We will have demonstrations and displays that will interest all members of the family.  There will be an agricultural tour will highlight improved agricultural production practices, and an alternative program that will stay at the Lodge Hall in the air conditioning.    There will be demonstrations on: Beef Cattle Handling Facilities, Managing Fall Grazing in Beef Cattle, Small Scale Pork Production, Fuel and Oil Storage Requirements for Farms, and an equipment demonstration from Hobdy, Dye, and Reed in Bowling Green.  The alternative program will offer participants the chance use a "Cricut" to make a cake carrier customized with their name on it.  The alternative program is coordinated by Shanna Drake.  Tracy Cowles, Extension FCS agent, will be demonstrating the use of the Cricut machine.  There will also be displays about topics of interest to Butler County families. Attendees can participate in these activities and enjoy a great afternoon.  A delicious meal will be provided for everyone after the tours (usually 6:30 p.m.).  Attendees will have a chance to win some terrific door prizes.  Last year’s field day was attended by 146 people.

If you will be participating in the county CAIP cost share program, this field day will count as your educational activity.  Come out and help us make this event even bigger.  There is no charge to attend the field day.  The craft program has a $5 fee to cover the cost of your cake carrier.

The lodge is in Northwest Butler County.  Take Hwy. 79 north (to Caneyville) and then turn left on Hwy. 2713.  The Banock Masonic Lodge is about 4 miles out on the right.  Mark your calendars now.
