Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Volunteers give their time and energy – and sometimes money – for a worthy cause. Volunteers are compassionate and promote quality in life. In our region, we are blessed with many who volunteer on a regular basis.
People have different interests even in volunteerism. So, I asked friends and family, “What’s the most rewarding experience(s) you’ve had doing volunteer work?” Their responses are below:

Cheryl Hughes: Our House

The place is falling down around me.  You wouldn’t think four people could generate this much destruction.  I guess we’re just gifted.  I can tolerate a mess for a while then I begin to feel like I’m being pushed out of my own home.
I see the problem.  The problem is I give everybody, including myself, permission to do these things.  These things being the freedom to work, play and relax in the manner to which we have grown accustomed, which, in our case, is chaos.

Jarrod Jacobs: "He Is Too Narrow!"

The observation is sometimes made about a preacher, elder, or teacher that he is “too narrow.” It is entirely possible, of course, that one may be “too narrow.” However, this is not so often the case as some may think. Some people are so broad that they are mighty shallow. Absence of conviction is often mistaken for broadness of mind. Some people think that they have to be broad in order to match their real or imaginary importance in the business or social world.

That’s All, Folks-Awhile back, I began hearing rumblings that Psyche would be cancelled after this season, their 8th.  I’ve also heard rumblings that another USA show, White Collar, was on the verge of being cancelled.  Once those shows go away, I’ll have no other reason except for Monday nights to watch USA.

Have you ever had your day start wrong? Last Thursday, I had most of my day scheduled and planned to leave a little early, ensuring I would not be late for my first appointment. When I backed my vehicle out of the garage, I recognized that something wasn’t right. I stopped, got out of the car and circled it, checking the tires. The front passenger tire was totally flat. Since I’m not handy with changing tires, I began calling to reschedule my appointments. Then, I called my son-in-law for his help.

Cheryl Hughes: When the Present is Past

I called my sister-in-law, yesterday, to tell her how much I appreciated the way she took time to make home-made pizza with my kids when they were little.  I called after watching my daughter with her own daughter.  Making pizza with her Aunt Susan is one of Natalie’s favorite memories, so she brought home the ingredients to make pizza with Sabria.  (My daughter, Nikki’s, favorite memory with an aunt is the time the fire trucks showed up because yet another pot of Aunt Charlotte’s green beans boiled dry and smoked up the place, setting off the home-alert system, to whose call Charlotte coul

Jarrod Jacobs: Don’t Believe Your Eyes!

Magicians’ sleight of hand fools most people when it is done correctly. When watching them, we are wise when we heed the warning, “Don’t believe your eyes.” In entertainment, many a short man has been made taller on television and in the movies by filming him next to his “leading lady” while he stands on a box! Many a computer has generated scenes and events for movies that could never happen otherwise. Our senses can be fooled in many ways. I remember when Isaac was fooled when his sense of “touch” told him one thing, while his sense of “hearing” told him something else (Gen. 27:22).
