Jarrod Jacobs: A Hearing Problem Or A Heart Problem?

There are many that teach that in order to be saved, one must have faith that Jesus is the Son of God, just as John 8:24 teaches. Many agree also that repentance and the confession of our faith in Christ is necessary just as the Bible says in Luke 13:3 and Romans 10:10. However, when we talk about a person being baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38), these same folks will be among many who deny that baptism is necessary. What is the problem? Why do some reject a Bible teaching like baptism, while accepting faith and repentance?

Companies change logos all the time.  I remember when ESPN2 began October 1, 1993.  I was a freshman in high school.  I remember thinking how cool it was that I was there for the birth of a network.  Sure, I was alive for the birth of MTV (’81), but I was 2.  I don’t know about you, but I can’t recall anything from 33 years ago.

As mentioned before, my oldest daughter gave me a journal entitled Mom, Share Your Life with Me… Each page has a question to which I respond. One question recently said, “Do you have some good advice for me?” Now, when did a mother not have advice – good, bad or indifferent – for her child?

First, a word about fame and fortune, if I’ve ever had any to speak of.  Oh, I do get a “I enjoy your column” every now and then.  That’s nice.  Mark Twain said one time he could live two months on a good compliment.

Recently, I saw an interview with Garrison Keillor (A Prairie Home Companion).  One of the questions put to Keillor was what inspired him to go with radio during an era in which television had taken over as the essential medium for American entertainment.  (Prairie Home Companion started its broadcast in the early 70’s and continues through today.)  Keillor responded simply, “People like to be spoken to.”

Jarrod Jacobs: Parents Providing For Their Families #2

Paul told Timothy, “But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever” (I Tim. 5:8). Last week, we began a study about the need in our society for parents who will provide spiritually for their children. Let us continue in this study.

Dress for Success
This phrase is heard all the time.  It’s even been the title of a movie and a song.  But what does it mean to dress for success? It means that you don’t go for a job interview at a Fortune 500 company dressed in a t-shirt, jeans and sneakers.  In my opinion, you don’t go to ANY job interview in a t-shirt, jeans and sneakers.  Even if it’s a casual interview, lunch or whatever, at least wear a Polo shirt and kakis.

Have you noticed that some products we purchase have decreased in size, but not in price? I’ve noticed that many of the products I regularly purchase fall into this category.

The biblical proverb says, “Pride goeth before a fall.”  It would be safe in saying that pride is a fall.  We knew a lady who had a stroke in a doctor’s office:  she was not a patient; she had only gone with her daughter to a doctor in a nearby town.  She felt herself above the nearby town and the doctor.  She refused treatment by the doctor; she also refused to allow an ambulance to be called-it would have taken her to the nearest hospital-nothing doing.  She had her daughter drive her home, better than an hour’s drive.  There was no hospital as good as the one in her hometown.  She never

My husband, Garey, and I watched a news clip in which a mom and two kids had chosen to stay inside a car that was on fire instead of climbing out of the car and facing the lions that were surrounding them.  (The situation took place at a safari park in Great Britain.  Luckily, a park ranger arrived on the scene, pulled up beside the burning car and quickly ushered the family into his vehicle.)
