Jarrod Jacobs: Parents Providing For Their Families

Paul told Timothy, “But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever” (I Tim. 5:8). I believe most folks have an interest in providing the necessities of life financially for their children. Many parents sacrifice willingly in order that their children might not be in want. If necessary, many parents would sacrifice their health in order to provide their children with medicine. Some would do without nourishment in order that their children might not go hungry.

Tuesday night April 22, I went to Barnes & Noble in Bowling Green for UK coach John Calipari’s signing of his book Players First: Coaching From The Inside Out.  I arrived at 5:00.  By 5:44, the line of rabid UK basketball fans engulfed the entire store, wrapping around in a snake-like fashion.  Coach finally arrived a few minutes before 6:00.  He addressed the crowd before signing.

I’ve swung from a tie swing hooked to a tree limb.  I’ve swum in a pond where cows drank.  I’ve shot marbles on a dusty school ground, I’ve drunk cold well water at that same school as well.  I still say “yonder”, and “stay all-night” and “supper”.

Sometimes, during the a.m. hours, I’m awake, sitting in a recliner or lying on the futon in the BBC room, flipping channels on the TV.  I’ll watch anything that will keep my mind off the pain in my legs.  Wednesday night, I stumbled upon the Susan Boyle story.  You remember her.  She is the middle-aged Scottish woman who walked onto the stage of “Britain’s Got Talent” and blew everyone away with her voice.  (If you have never watched that film clip, do yourself a favor, and pull it up on YouTube.)

With Easter upon us this Sunday, every church across the country will be celebrating Easter in some for or fashion.  Easter is not just Peeps, candy and the Easter Bunny.  All that stuff is fine, but our main focus should be the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Easter is almost here. This Christian holiday celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion. My family, like many others, has always considered it a time for thanksgiving, attending church service and family gatherings.

“Do you think there are more pigeon-toed women than there are men? “ I said this to first wife Bett as we sat talking.
What is small-talk worth? What do we learn from it? Do we do much of it anymore? How much does it define the thoughts and personalities of people? How much better can we know them through small talk-when there is no posturing or “face”?
Someone said there is more to be learned from our founding fathers in the few recorded moments of their small talk.

Cheryl Hughes: Stripper

Have you ever attempted to strip wallpaper from a wall that has been in place for over twenty years?  Don’t.  If I hadn’t started already, I wouldn’t continue.  As it is, there is a gaping section of wallpaper-less wall against a paint color in stark contrast to the color scheme in the paper itself, so here I am.

Jarrod Jacobs: Did Jesus Die For All Or A Few?

For whom did Jesus die? Did He die for all mankind, or just a select, predestined few? The reason I ask this is because there are folks who tell us that God chose the specific number of people He would save. If this is the case, then Jesus’ death was not for all humanity, but just for those He wanted to save. Therefore, what does the Bible say about Christ’s death? For whom did He die?
