Cheryl Hughes: Fly Away

“There’s a dead cow under our house,” my husband, Garey informs me as I find my way into the kitchen for my morning cup of coffee.
“Oh really,” I say, as I start the caffeine brew.
“There’s gotta be,” he says, “I’ve been killing flies for twenty minutes.”

Jarrod Jacobs: The Crucifixion Of Christ

The Bible speaks very matter-of-factly about the crucifixion of Christ. We know that this event was a matter of prophecy in the Old Testament (Gen. 3:15; Ps. 22; Isa. 53; Dan. 9:26). We also know that Christ alluded to this event, declaring that He would die by crucifixion (Matt. 16:21, 17:23, 20:19; Mk. 9:31, 10:34; Lk. 9:22, 18:31-33, 24:7). When the time came, the Holy Spirit inspired the writers to say simply: “They crucified him” (Matt. 27:35; Mk. 15:25; Lk. 23:33; Jn. 19:18).

Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain

Spotify and I were very happy for years.  Even through change on their part, I stuck with them.  Suddenly, my music got interrupted with gaps of blank space between songs.  After a few weeks of this, I became fed up.  After much consideration, I left Spotify for Pandora.  The first few weeks with Pandora were much like any new relationship: exciting and new.  After some time, that newness wore off.

Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Choosing a career was one of the hardest decisions that I ever made. Some people seem able to make that decision easily, while others – like me – struggle for a while. I watched my children go through the career decision-making process, and now my older grandchildren are at that point in their lives. People arrive at their decisions in different ways.

Andy Sullivan: Against The Grain

Oh Snap-ple! The Next Generation-’ve always said that I don’t like the drink but I sure do love these little facts on the cap.  Did you know it was against the law to use the “Star Spangled Banner” as dance music in Massachusetts? I’m more amazed that anyone would use the “Star Spangled Banner” as dance music.  It’d be a slow, majestic dance.

Jarrod Jacobs: Deceit

Deception happens daily. Some people have lost their life savings because they were deceived. Others have been deceived by criminals who were preying on them. People are deceived spiritually when they are led to believe that any “religion” and any “religious” person pleases God. Some are deceived into thinking that so long as God “didn’t say not to” do this or that, then it is authorized. Deceit will blind men to the truth and rob men of their salvation if they die in that condition.

Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Plant care has been on my mind in recent days. As H. Jackson Brown said, “Remember that children, marriages, and flower gardens reflect the kind of care they get” (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/topics/topic_gardening.html). I researched the care of some specific plants, hoping to enjoy them longer, and found some helpful advice.

Cheryl Hughes: Loaf or Sandwich

Twice in the past two weeks, I asked my daughter, Natalie, to bring home sandwich bread.  Twice, she brought home loaf bread.  The third time, I sent her a text describing sandwich bread: Please bring home sandwich bread…it is in a king size bag…the edges are squared off, not rounded.  She texted back:  I know what bread is!  She brought home another bag of loaf bread.
I made the comment to my husband, Garey, I had failed to get across to Natalie the difference between loaf and sandwich bread.
“What are you talking about?” he asked

Jarrod Jacobs: Is The Following A Wise Decision?

What if someone were to say, “The wise and good thing to do today is to start drinking alcohol.” Would you defend this statement? Would you say that this is something that ought to be encouraged? How about encouraging our children to drink alcohol? If “other people” do it, would it be OK then?
