Allen County’s close location to larger cities with a rural and friendly setting makes the county a great place to live and work, as their website will tell you.  Scottsville, the county seat, is located 20 miles from Bowling Green, KY; 120 miles from Louisville, Kentucky and only 60 miles from Nashville, TN”.
“Our community has a lot to offer: its location, its beautiful countryside and, most of all, its friendly people.  There are five districts in Allen County.  As of the 2010 census, the population was 19,956. This is compared to 17,800 in 2000. The county is named for Colonel John Allen, a state senator and soldier who was killed leading the first regiment of Kentucky Rifflemen at the Battle of Frenchtown, Michigan during the War of 1812.  Allen is a prohibition(dry) county.  It was formed in 1815 from parts of Barren and Warren counties.  Allen County is included in the Bowling Green, KY Metropolitan Statistical Area.
A courthouse fire in 1902 resulted in the loss of some county records.  According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 352 square miles of which 344 square miles is land and 7.5 square miles is water. 
Notable residents are Evangelist Mordecei Ham(April 2, 1877-November 1, 1961), former basketball player Jim McDaniels(born 1948)-he played at Allen County High and WKU.  Also residents are actor Charles Napier(April 12, 1936-October 5, 2011, Cal Turner, Sr and Norro Wilson(born April 4, 1938), who is a member of the Nashville Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.
