Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around my house. I’ve been doing a little decorating. I don’t decorate to the degree that many do, but I do have a wreath, a few holiday decorations, and a tree. Currently, the tree is a work in progress.

A couple of years ago, a survey regarding holiday decorating trends found that:

Mac McGeean was really difficult to describe...Captain Mac McGeean. I do remember he was from the North West….(Washington State or Oregon maybe)  I don’t recall his first name,  but he was still hard to forget.

Jarrod Jacobs: “The Dangers Of Assuming About Other People”

II Samuel 10 (and II Chron. 19) speaks of the occasion when David’s kindness was misinterpreted as evil. An assumption was made by the princes of the Ammonites that David had sent spies into the country (v. 3). He had not done this. Rather, this was a diplomatic action following the death of Nahash the Ammonite (v. 2). Yet, because of the princes’ assumption, David’s men were insulted, horribly mistreated, and sent away (v. 4-5). The end result was that the Ammonites hired the Syrians as soldiers and David and Israel went to war with the Ammonites and Syrians.

Grammy nominations were released the morning I write this and there were some notable snubs.  The past years mixtures of Country, Rock, Hip Hop, R&B and Pop are non-existent this year.  Same can be said for album of the year, record of the year and best new artist.  Basically, if you’re a country music fan, don’t bother watching the Grammy’s.

Recently I’ve come across a variety of thought-provoking information. Some of that information is summarized below. I love learning new-to-me information and sharing it.

Don Locke: Lookin Thru the Bifocals

Author John Steinbeck - (Grapes of Wrath; Cannery Row; Travels with Charlie), said once the most satisfying glass of teas he ever had was with an old arab sheep herder: “We sipped tea in his tent, in a not-too-clean-a-glass, in the middle of a desert.”

Cheryl Hughes: Life in the Freezer

We went to Alabama on Friday of Thanksgiving week to see Garey’s mom, Aggie.  Her big freezer had gone out mid-week, and it fell to Garey’s sister, Charlotte, to get a new freezer and save what food she could.  Aggie even paid extra to have the old one hauled off, which is out of character for the Hughes bunch (there’s still an old one on my back sidewalk), and I’m so proud of Aggie for getting rid of the old appliance.

Jarrod Jacobs: An "Expiration Date"

Much of what we purchase has an “expiration date” somewhere on the item, or its package. For example, food products often come with an “expiration date” somewhere on them. Medicines sometimes have “expiration dates” on them as well. Folks with contact lenses may have noticed that their contacts have an “expiration date” somewhere on the box.

Against The Grain by: Andy Sullivan

As I write this, Thanksgiving is just a few days away.  The fact that it’s the end of November 2017 is mind-boggling.  It seems like the yesterday we were celebrating New Year’s Day and now we’re just a little over a month until we do it all over again.  Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, though.
