Against The Grain by: Andy Sullivan

As I write this, Thanksgiving is just a few days away.  The fact that it’s the end of November 2017 is mind-boggling.  It seems like the yesterday we were celebrating New Year’s Day and now we’re just a little over a month until we do it all over again.  Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, though.

First thing’s first is Thanksgiving this Thursday.  I’ve never entered an eating contest but I imagine Thanksgiving Day comes closest to what an eating contest would be like.  If multiple helpings is the goal, try to pace yourself.  That usually isn’t the route I go, though.  I love the dressing so I usually pile on.  Think Joey Tribbiani does Thanksgiving.  I even have my Joey-inspired Thanksgiving pants.  I have a couple pair of Adidas pants.  I’ll probably rock one of those.

Dressing is my all-time favorite, and the corn.  My favorite turkey is dark meat.  Don’t ask me why I like dark meat best.  I just do.  Five cup is my favorite salad.  You can’t go wrong with anything that includes marshmallows,

Being a big football fan, you can find me in front of the television before and after dinner.  Sometimes, I’ll even mute the TV while eating so I can see the game.  Afterwards, I usually take a turkey-induced nap.  The dessert usually comes after the nap.  You can’t have dessert right after a big Thanksgiving meal.  You can but you’ll be stacking misery upon misery.  I like eating my dessert while I’m at least a little less stuffed.  That way I can decimate a piece of chocolate pie, pumpkin roll or whatever good stuff we’re having.  As you surmised, chocolate pie and pumpkin roll are two of my most favorite Thanksgiving desserts.

You have all the leftovers that sometimes last for days.  Sometimes they don’t last quite as long.  I think leftover Thanksgiving is right up there with the actual Thanksgiving meal.  I’m here to tell you, leftover dressing is fantastic! Controversial opinion time: I’ll eat gravy on stuff but I prefer my dressing sans gravy.  Shocking, I know.  I like the flavor of the dressing as is.  Of course, it has to be grade A dressing that pretty much only my mom can make.  That’s my favorite, anyway.

Wherever you have Thanksgiving, remember give thanks for everything God has given us this year.  Then pig out and watch football and/or movies.  And don’t forget the stretchy pants.   Happy Thanksgiving!
