Electric Fencing for Serious Graziers: Installation and Troubleshooting Fencing School Event – June 12th

Join us for the upcoming Electric Fencing for Serious Graziers – Fencing School on Wednesday, June 12th at the Butler County Extension Service from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

This hands-on class will cover installation and troubleshooting with electric fencing.

As part of International Fire Fighters Day/Month in May, a proclamation signed by Judge-Executive Tim Flener was presented to the Second District Volunteer Fire Department.

Special Proclamations were signed for each fire department in the county and will be delivered to the members at their May meetings. Volunteer Fire Departments in the county are: Morgantown, Second District, Rochester, Fourth District and Fifth District.

Nicholas Dorsey performed Patriotic Service for the American Revolution as a Commissioner of Observation (a committee of inspection to enforce a boycott of British goods enacted by the First Continental Congress) for Baltimore County (now Carroll County), MD in 1775-76 when he was commissioned Ensign. He was then promoted to First Lieutenant and later was commissioned to Colonel of Maryland Troops (Muster Rolls of Maryland-Archives of Maryland Volumes XVI and XXI). He was older than most when he entered the War where he served alongside his sons, Nicholas, and Henry.

Benjamin A Washburn house on Bellview Pike, north of Shelbyville, KY

Benjamin Washburn, a Revolutionary War Veteran from 1777-1781 from a listing the 1840 Revolutionary War pensioners in the Kentucky Census. According to service record # S11696, he served as a Private in Virginia under Captains Jack Roberts, James Purvis and Colonel Francis Taylor. It seems he joined the army when he was approximately 15 or 16 to fight in the Revolution.

Wanda Gaskey 45 years of service at MCRC

Thursday, May 2, was an extraordinary day for one particular employee from MCRC, as well as with past and present employees. The staff and former staff gathered to honor and celebrate Wanda Gaskey's 45 years of service.

Wanda began coming to the facility in second grade, as her mother worked there, and it stirred something in her heart—something extraordinary, so unique that she began her career there at 17.
