1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Sets Children On the Path to Success . . . One Book At A Time

Families are invited to join the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program at the Butler County Public Library. The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is a nationwide challenge that encourages parents and caregivers to regularly read aloud to their children. By reading just one book a night, families can reach the 1,000-book goal in three years and provide their children essential early literacy skills.

2017 Butler County Field Day is for Everyone

The drone demonstration was popular with attendees at last year’s county field day. It was held in Rochester, KY.

The 2017 Butler County Field Day, on September 7th, will truly offer something for everyone in the family.  We will have demonstrations about forestry and forest lands management, dealing with nuisance wildlife like the opossum that tries to eat the fish food in my garage, how to be safe around underground utilities, and finally a drone demonstration by WRECC.  We will have an alternative program where Tommy Hines will teach about the history of Butler County using the Green River Museum as a backdrop.  Tracy Cowles will have a program that will appeal to both kids and adults called BCKY Ro

BC Drug Free: E-Cigarettes

E-cigarettes are battery powered smoking devices often designed to look and feel like regular cigarettes. They use cartridges filled with a liquid that contains nicotine, flavoring and other chemicals. A heating device in the e-cigarette converts the liquid into a vapor, which the person inhales. That’s why using e-cigarettes is known as “vaping.”
E-cigarettes are being marketed as a safe alternative to smoking, but they are not safe because e-cigarettes are still putting nicotine-a highly addictive drug- into the body.

Christine Bratcher: Creating Blessings, One Stitch At A Time

A few days ago I stopped by the nursing home to see what had happened to the bed shawls I wrote about last time.  I nice young woman named Diane, I didn’t get her last name, took me to Serenity Lane where I saw several on them on the beds of the residents there.  I thought they brightened up the rooms nicely. Diane apologized that more were not out, but they were being washed, good. She told me that the people also enjoyed wrapping up and cuddling in the bed shawls. I am so glad they are living up to their multiple uses.
