GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL Butler County drops high-scoring game to Marion County in Triple OT

ALBANY — Butler County came up short as Marion County prevailed 96-90 in triple overtime during the opening round of the Best of the Lakes Holiday Classic at Clinton County High School on Tuesday, Dec. 19.

It's the seventh-highest scoring girls' high school basketball game in state history. 

Holding a slim advantage midway through the matchup, Marion County led 36-33 at halftime. 

Butler County shot 31.9 percent (30-of-94) from the field. The Lady Bears made one of seven three-point field goal attempts.

Bears suffer loss to Evansville North

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Butler County slipped into the loss column as Evansville North prevailed 74-67 in the Evansville Bosse Winter Classic on Saturday, Dec. 16. 

For the first time in the 2023-23 boys' high school basketball season, Butler County suffered a setback. Following the loss, Butler County dropped to 5-1. 

Butler County and Evansville North were tied 17-17 at the end of the first quarter.

MES Archery takes first place

On December 9, the Morgantown Elementary School archery team attended a tournament at Grace Baptist in Madisonville, where the MES team took first place. Individual awards include 1st place female DeLanie Ryan, 2nd place female Daphne Patrosky, 3rd place female Ella Johnson, and 1st place male Landon Fuson. Best wishes as they compete in Bowling Green at the Bears/Raiders Yuletide “Bow”nanza on December 16 at 10 am.

Bears roll past Breckinridge County 82-50

MORGANTOWN — Butler County used a balanced offensive attack to beat visiting Breckinridge County 82-50 on Tuesday, Dec. 12. 

After registering the win, 3rd Region title contender Butler County moved to 4-0.

Setting the tone, Butler County outscored Breckinridge County 26-9 in the opening quarter.

The Bears led 50-28 at halftime and remained in control after the intermission period.

Extending its lead following the break, Butler County led 72-38 at the conclusion of the third quarter.

MORGANTOWN — Butler County couldn't battle back from behind as visiting Todd County Central held on to win 54-49 in a non-district girls' high school basketball game on Monday, Dec. 11.

Robins named as new head football coach at BCHS

New BCHS Head Football Coach Josh Robins and BCHS Principal Stoye Young

Butler County High School has hired Joshua Robins as its new head football coach. Robins comes to BCHS  from Todd County Central High School, where he has been the head football coach for the past five seasons.  Before that, he led the Fort Campbell High School (FCHS) Falcons for three seasons as head coach.

GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Butler County tops Apollo 61-46

MORGANTOWN — Claiming its second straight win, Butler County topped visiting Apollo 61-46 on Monday, Dec. 4. 

Following the win, Butler County moved to 3-1. 

Starting strong, Butler County doubled up Apollo 20-10 in the first quarter.

Butler County led 32-26 at halftime and managed to extend its lead early in the second half.

GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Lady Bears defeat LaRue County

HODGENVILLE — Returning to the win column, Butler County defeated LaRue County 49-35 in an early-season girls' high school basketball game on Saturday, Dec. 2.

After registering the win, Butler County improved to 2-1.

Butler County shot 34 percent (18-of-52) from the field.

The Lady Bears shot 52.2 percent (12-of-23) from the free throw line. 

Dominating inside, Butler County cleared out 48 rebounds.
