Bears suffer loss to Evansville North

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Butler County slipped into the loss column as Evansville North prevailed 74-67 in the Evansville Bosse Winter Classic on Saturday, Dec. 16. 

For the first time in the 2023-23 boys' high school basketball season, Butler County suffered a setback. Following the loss, Butler County dropped to 5-1. 

Butler County and Evansville North were tied 17-17 at the end of the first quarter.

Evansville North managed to lead 34-32 at halftime. 

However, Butler County battled back to lead 54-50 at the end of the third quarter.

Finishing strong in the matchup, Evansville North thrived throughout the final quarter and pulled out the win. 

Butler County was without Justin Castlen. Due to an injury, Castlen was sidelined. Castlen is averaging 10.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game for the Bears. 

Ty price poured in 31 points to lead the Bears. Price led a trio of Butler County scorers in double figures.

Accompanying Price in double figures for Butler County, Lawson Rice scored 15 points and Trever Deweese netted 12 points.

Rounding out Butler County's scoring, Briar Griffin added five points while Clayton Deweese and Case Hooten contributed two points apiece. 

Butler County is scheduled to meet Trinity (Louisville) in the King of the Bluegrass Holiday Classic at Fairdale High School in Louisville at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 20.
