Bears & Lady Bears pick up wins

Bears roll past Breckinridge County 82-50

MORGANTOWN — Butler County used a balanced offensive attack to beat visiting Breckinridge County 82-50 on Tuesday, Dec. 12. 

After registering the win, 3rd Region title contender Butler County moved to 4-0.

Setting the tone, Butler County outscored Breckinridge County 26-9 in the opening quarter.

The Bears led 50-28 at halftime and remained in control after the intermission period.

Extending its lead following the break, Butler County led 72-38 at the conclusion of the third quarter. 

Four Butler County players reached double figures in scoring. 

Ty Price scored 24 points to lead the Bears. Accompanying Price in double figures for Butler County, Lawson Rice scored 17 points while Justin Castlen and Trever Deweese netted 15 points apiece. 

Aiding Butler County offensively, Briar Griffin added eight points and Clayton Deweese contributed three points. 

Butler County is scheduled to host Russellville on Thursday, Dec. 14. Tip-off for the Butler County-Russellville game is set for 7:30 p.m. 

 

Lady Bears beat Muhlenberg County 56-47 

GREENVILLE — Returning to the win column, Butler County beat Muhlenberg County 56-47 on Tuesday, Dec. 12. 

With the win, Butler County improved to 4-2. 

Butler County won after dropping a game to Todd County Central 24 hours earlier. 

Starting strong, Butler County outscored Muhlenberg County 18-10 in the opening quarter.

Remaining out in front midway through the matchup, Butler County clung to a 26-24 lead over Muhlenberg County at halftime.

Extending its lead following the intermission period, Butler County led Muhlenberg County 43-37 at the conclusion of the third quarter.  

Taylor Leach and Ava Wilson scored 13 points apiece to lead the Lady Bears.

Accompanying Leach and Wilson in double figures for Butler County, Ann Marie Skaggs netted 11 points.

Narrowly missing double figures for Butler County, Addison Miller added nine points.

Chipping in offensively, Karrington Hunt (four points), Parker Willoughby (three points) and Bailey Moore (three points) provided Butler County's additional scoring. 

Butler County is scheduled to begin competing in the Best of the Lakes Holiday Classic at Clinton County High School on Tuesday, Dec. 19.
