GOP Ticket Carries Butler County; Johnson Defeats Willis in Race for Second District Constable

With 13 of 13 precincts reporting, the Republican ticket for statewide offices carried the way in Butler County over their Democratic counterparts in today's General Election.  However, those results were precisely the opposite across the state, save one race, with Democrats garnering a solid majority of votes keeping them firmly in control of state government in Frankfort.

Butler County Water Celebrates 40 Years

(Morgantown, KY)- Butler County Water System, Inc. is commemorating its 40-year anniversary with a week-long celebration, November 14-18, at the Butler Water office at 104 South Tyler Street, Suite B in Morgantown. Refreshments will be offered, along with a written history of Butler Water history and a free water bottle promotion.

Warren County Indictments Linked to Butler County Pharmacy

According to an article in The Daily News (Deborah Highland, November 4, 2011), approximately 26,000 schedule II prescription pills taken from a Butler County pharmacy has resulted in four Warren County indictments.  The undercover investigation, which is being spearheaded by the Bowling Green-Warren County Drug Task Force, began in May following an "undercover morphine purchase."

Rural Development Holds Annual Awards Meeting

The Butler County Rural Development Annual Awards Meeting was held on Saturday, November 5, at the county extension office.  All four clubs, Big Bend, Little Muddy, Provo and Reedyville, were represented. Members were treated to a potluck dinner, followed by entertainment by Caleb Smithson, a local WKU student.

The Morgantown Mission Celebrates 20 Years

Friday, November 4, was a time of celebration for the Morgantown Mission, an inter-denominational organization devoted to helping those in need, located at 109 South Main Street.  To celebrate the twenty-year mark, volunteers served cake and soft drinks, directed shoppers to sale items in the thrift store, and fashioned balloon animals for the children.  Former director, Gene Vaughn and wife, Evelyn, (pictured above)bagged purchases at the register while current director, Garry McKinney, welcomed guests to the celebration.

Kylee Meza Calendar Cover Girl, Billy Durbin Centerfold

Kylee Meza is the 2012 Calendar Cover Girl and Billy Durbin is the Centerfold Guy. Meza and Durbin were crowned Saturday night at the 2012 Calendar Girl/Centerfold Guy contest.  The contest  was sonsored by the Butler County High School FCCLA.  
“This is the 21st annual calendar girl contest and the 9th annual centerfold guy contest,” said Kimberlea Embry, FCCLA Sponsor for BCHS.  We are very pleased with the participation; we have 51 girls and 6 guys competing.”

Test of Emergency Alert System

On November 9, 2011, at 1:00 PM the first ever Nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System will be conducted. Don’t be alarmed when television and radio broadcasts are interrupted for the test. If you have a Weather Radio it will be activated during the test.

Comfort Foods Raises $650 for Red Cross

The 4th annual Comfort Foods for the Holiday was held on Saturday, October 29 at the Education Complex in Morgantown.   Becky Hankins and Barbara Sullivan raised $650 for the American Red Cross.  Cooks from all over Butler County and a couple from other counties shared their favorite recipes.
