Butler County Native Named Chief of Staff

Gov. Steve Beshear has promoted longtime aide Larry Bond to be his chief of staff. Bond is a native of Butler County who now lives in Louisville. He is the son of the late Troy Bond and Ailene Bond of Morgantown. Bond succeeds Mike Haydon, who died suddenly earlier this month.

Bond, who had been serving since 2010 as a deputy chief of staff, previously was commissioner and later deputy secretary of the Department of Public Protection.

Before joining Beshear's administration, Bond served as chief administrative officer for Jefferson County government, chief deputy and chief operating officer for the Jefferson County circuit clerk's office and director of administration with the rank of colonel for the Jefferson County sheriff's office.

Bond graduated from the Western Kentucky University Sheriff’s Academy and attended the University of Louisville and Kentucky Wesleyan University. He is a U.S. Army veteran and was decorated for his service during the Vietnam War.

The chief of staff oversees the day-to-day operations of the governor’s office and is a key advisor to Beshear.
