BOARD OF EDUCATION: School calendar, make-up day, superintendent's contract approved

The Butler County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at the Butler County Education Complex.  With all members present the board quickly got down to business. Chairperson Dr. Amy Hood called the meeting to order, followed by approval of the agenda and the December minutes.
The school calendar was discussed several times during the meeting.  Butler County Schools will be dismissed on January 18, 2016 for Martin Luther King Day and on January 26, 2016 for the wet/dry election.  According to Robert Tuck, Butler County Schools Instructional Coordinator Middle & High School, and Director Of Pupil Personnel, January 26, 2016 will have to be made up and banked days cannot be used.  February 15, 2016, was set as a holiday for Presidents’ Day but will now be used as a make-up day.

In other business the board approved Superintendent Scott Howard’s contract from July 1, 2016 until June 30, 2020.
Eric Elms presented the treasurer’s report:
Beginning Balance:  $2,315,192.28
Receipts:  $1,519,441.45
Expenditures: $1,836,823.28
Ending Balance:  $1,997,810.45

Last Year's Ending Balance:  $2,315,192.28

Note:  The Construction Fund owes the General Fund $438,000.

The board approved payment of monthly bills.
Supt. Howard gave his monthly report on meetings and events he had attended.  He recognized Delta Faucet for their $25,000 check presentation at Morgantown Elementary for the Leader In Me Program. North Butler Elementary Principal Josh Belcher presented board members with gifts for Board Member Appreciation Month.

  •  Butler County Schools 2015 Renovations Direct Pay Application #3 to Consolidated Electrical Distributors in the Amount of $35,680.91
  • Butler County Schools 2015 Renovations Direct Pay Application #3 to Owensboro Winnelson in the Amount of $6,995.54
  •  Butler County Schools 2015 Renovations Direct Pay Application #3 to Trane in the Amount of $28,533.00
