2023 Kentucky Teacher Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Governor Louie B. Nunn Kentucky Teacher Hall of Fame is set to welcome four new members into its ranks. Jesse Brown, Helen Russell, Kimberlea Embry, and Donna Smith have been selected as the newest additions to the 15th class.  

These distinguished individuals, who were chosen by a statewide selection committee, are scheduled to be officially inducted on Friday, December 1, at the Western Kentucky University campus as part of the 2023 Hall of Fame ceremony.

LEXINGTON, KY – Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) membership elected Morgantown Mayor Billy Phelps to the organization’s Executive Board. Phelps has been mayor since 2015 after 25 years with the Morgantown Police Department, including five years as police chief.

Community, businesses support local family following tragic accident

In a remarkable show of solidarity and compassion, the community has come together to support the Gomez-Francisco family in their time of need following a tragic car accident on Saturday, September 2nd. The devastating accident claimed the lives of two family members and left several others injured, prompting an outpouring of support from local businesses and individuals alike.

Housing Authority of Beaver Dam recognized for Significant Achievement

On September 19, 2023, the Housing Authority of Beaver Dam received an award from the HUD Louisville Office of Public Housing for Significant Achievement.

Jewel McIntosh – Executive Director, Debbie Gillstrap – Chairperson of the Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, and Jolene Johnson – Vice Chairperson of the Housing Authority Board of Commissioners were present to accept the award on behalf of the Housing Authority of Beaver Dam.

BCHS Students Compete 2023 KY Governor's School for the Arts Program

LOUISVILLE, KY. (Sept. 19, 2023) – The 2023 Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts program concluded on July 29, with a class that represented more than half of the Commonwealth’s 120 counties. The conclusion of the program marked the second year the program has had an increased class size thanks to supplemental funding from the Kentucky Department of Education*.  Growing from 256 students to more than 500 students, the tuition-free program took place during two consecutive three-week sessions (Session 1: June 11 – July 1; Session 2: July 9 – July 29) with students divided into each.

Butler County Fiscal Court met at the courthouse on Monday, September 11. Judge/Executive Tim Flener started the meeting with a moment of silence in honor of 9/11. All magistrates attended - Stevie Givens, Kevin Phelps, Allen Smith, David Whittinghill and Dillon Bryant.
