Butler County students recognized for academic achievement at WKU

The following Western Kentucky University students from the Butler County area were named to the honors lists for the spring 2019 semester. Full-time undergraduate students with a semester grade-point average of 3.4 to 3.79 are named to the Dean’s List. Students with a GPA of 3.8 to 4.0 are named to the President’s List. Butler County Fiscal Court awarded $312,086 in discretionary funds for critical pavement improvements

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (June 10, 2019) – During Monday’s Butler County Fiscal Court meeting, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) Department of Rural and Municipal Aid Commissioner Gray Tomblyn II announced $312,086 in discretionary funds for vital resurfacing work on Caney Fork Road and Love Brooklyn Road. Resurfacing repairs address existing surface cracks, potholes, raveling, and base failures. The significant investment supports Governor Matt Bevin’s commitment to prioritize transportation infrastructure projects and increase economic opportunity across the Commonwealth.

Public Discussion Held on Possible Landfill in Butler County

A special meeting was held on Tuesday, June 4 at the Butler County Extension Office to discuss the possibility of a residual landfill opening in Butler County.

The meeting was open to the public with a turnout of nearly 100 people. The meeting addressed questions and concerns about the matter.

Morgantown City Pool Set to Open Monday

After a month-long renovation period, the Morgantown City Pool is set to open this Monday, June 10 at 10 a.m.

Renovations began in early May to update the pool and other areas of the building. According to Morgantown City Pool Manager Andy Fuller, the pool was originally built in 1978 and was “time for an upgrade.”

Stained Glass by Adrianna Holds Grand Opening

Stained Glass by Adrianna officially opened for business on Thursday, June 6. The ribbon cutting took place at 12 p.m. with speeches by Morgantown Mayor Billy Phelps and Butler County Judge-Executive Tim Flener.

“I am so excited and thankful to everyone for this opportunity,” Adrianna Vossbrinck said.

Early morning exercise enthusiasts in Morgantown saw what appeared to be a naked woman in a wooded area across from Butler County High School.

Drug Arrest on Carson Bridge Road

The Butler County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to Carson Bridge Road on June 5th , around 4:31 am, concerning a subject asleep in a white Chevy truck on private property. Upon arrival Deputy Chris Reneer found Brian K. Tomes seating in the driver’s seat with the engine running and the window down asleep.  Reneer observed a glass meth pipe laying in the driver’s floor.
