Jon Reep at SKYPAC by: Andy Sullivan

Saturday night May 19, I made my inaugural trip to the new SKYPAC (Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center) in Bowling Green.  I received tickets to see comedian Jon Reep as an early birthday present.  It was definitely a great gift! I hadn’t laughed so hard since seeing Larry The Cable Guy at the Ryman several years ago.

There are a few things that come pretty close to bugging me at times. Just close. I don't want to be thought of as an old grouch. Somebody asked first wife Bett if she ever woke-up grouchy. "No," she replied, "I just let him sleep." Well, sometimes maybe, but not always. But we all have a few things we deny I guess.

My Career As A Woman

1798, an Englishman by the name of Thomas Malthus published his “Essay on Population.”  It argued that because food increased at an arithmetic rate (1,2,3,4,…) and population at a geometric rate (1,2,4,8,16,…) there would eventually be too little food.  He added that only war, famine, disease, or moral restraint could check the increase in population (A History of England, by Clayton and David Roberts).  His observation was a bit harsh, but it contains some relative information for our present day.  Because of modern breakthroughs in medicine, our life expectancies far exceed those of our a

When I shoot young grads, I like to get a couple ... "personality" shots. If for nothing more than to be sure the kids are having fun while having their pictures made. It's not all fun and games all the time - but sometimes a silly face is just necessary.

Against The Grain by: Andy Sullivan/Theme Music to Life

Many different things shape our day.  From our choice of breakfast to what to wear-these and more affect our mood.  There is also the right kind of music for every mood. Most likely, we all listen to music every day.

When my late husband and I were in college, we took a folklore class. It was one class that we actually enjoyed! Basically, folklore is the traditional customs, tales, sayings, dances, or art forms preserved among a people (www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/folklore).

Recently, I came across a book that included folk sayings related to planting and weather:

There are several definitions of the word "expert"; I'll mention only two: A HAS-BEEN-DRIP-UNDER-PRESSURE, and, ANYBODY A HUNDRED MILES FROM HOME CARRYING A BRIEFCASE.

Supt. Scott Howard: Successful Energy Conservation in Butler County

BC Schools Superintendent Scott Howard

Every public school system is pinching pennies. Districts are looking for new streams of revenue that would include but not be limited to grant writing and additional savings. Butler County Schools are constantly looking for more efficient ways to serve our children. Peter Drucker, a well-known management consultant once said, "Efficiency is doing things right; effectiveness is doing the right thing." It is more important now than ever before we focus on both of these concepts.
