Cheryl Hughes: Breakfast Chili and Other Bad Habits

My Career As A Woman

Years ago, when my friend, Josh Hampton, and I wrote for another paper, he wrote a column about a man who called him out because he (Josh) didn’t specify p.m. after the number “6” in an announcement about chili being served at a local event.  Seems the guy turned up at the event at 6 a.m. to find the place empty.  He was irate and let Josh know that his confusion could be laid at Josh’s feet because Josh hadn’t specified the “6” with a p.m. to indicate that the chili was being served as an evening meal.  The column made me laugh for two reasons: 1.

Jarrod Jacobs: Is One Born Guilty Of Sin?

The teaching that man is born a sinner is fairly common in the religious world. Is this true? Are little babies actually born guilty of Adam’s or their father’s sin? What does the Bible say?

House Budget Loaded With Debt, Raises Taxes to Cover Costs- The top duty of the Kentucky House of Representatives, pass a two-year budget for Kentucky, finally came to fruition this week, some eight weeks after the Governor first proposed a budget plan.

I, like many of my colleagues, take seriously the responsibility to pass a fiscally sound budget for the citizens of Kentucky.  While the vote to pass the budget in the House was 53 yeas and 46 nays, it was not without much debate.

Don Locke: Lookin Thru the Bifocals

“Hurry Poppa,” the boy urged as he saw to the water buffalo, “we need to get started; all the good stalls will be taken, you remember the marketplace opens at eight o clock.” The father was doing some last minute checking of the vegetables on the large two-wheeled cart. Both worked by lantern light; daylight was several hours away.

Working in education for over thirty-two years increased my appreciation for the learning process. It’s a process we use in every aspect of our lives – whether learning appropriate behaviors or gaining knowledge and skills. Generally, we can learn at any age.
Many people have expressed their opinions about learning; a few are listed below:
•    I don't think much of a man who is not wiser today than he was yesterday. -Abraham Lincoln
•    Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. -Henry Ford

Jesus Christ: The Most Misunderstood Person In History

Jarrod Jacobs

When reading the Bible, we understand that our redemption from sin is the theme of the book. Yet, it never ceases to amaze me to see how this simple theme and prophecy concerning a coming Savior can be so misunderstood by people. In fact, people not only misunderstood the facts about Christ in “Bible days,” but He is also misunderstood today! What is it that makes Christ so misunderstood? Put simply, it is because people attached their own wishes and thoughts to Him rather than letting Christ speak for Himself! Please take note of the following.

Andy Sullivan: Against The Grain

Being a Christian in a Social Media Age-I could sum up this whole column in two words: it’s hard.  Why is it hard? Look at all the temptation in the world.  Social media brings takes it to a whole new echelon.  We all have opinions, so we’re all going to have opinions about what our friends or followers share.  The trick of it is to keep you in line, to not venture too far out in left field.

Volunteers give their time and energy – and sometimes money – for a worthy cause. Volunteers are compassionate and promote quality in life. In our region, we are blessed with many who volunteer on a regular basis.
People have different interests even in volunteerism. So, I asked friends and family, “What’s the most rewarding experience(s) you’ve had doing volunteer work?” Their responses are below:
