Cheryl Hughes: Sunday Shoes

When I was growing up, we kids each had three pairs of shoes: a pair of every-day shoes, a pair of school shoes, and a pair of Sunday shoes.  Each day after school, we would change from our school shoes into our every-day shoes, which had actually begun their lives as school shoes, but had become too worn to wear that title and had subsequently been demoted to every-day shoes.

Jarrod Jacobs: We Are What We Repeatedly Do

The title for this article is part of a longer quote. When we think about the statement, “We are what we repeatedly do”, it states the truth. Our habits have a great impact upon our lives. More than this, I see this statement as a good explanation for “why” God emphasizes the need for man being faithful to Him.

Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

What do you like about summertime? Summer reminds me of warm weather, flowers in the yard, fresh fruits and vegetables, ice cream, and the Fourth of July. I also like the long summer days.

Don Locke: Lookin Thru Bifocals

Hanging on the drop-side of common sense---I've paid my nickel; I'll take my shot:
---If you find yourself frequently scratching your back on the edge of the door facing, it may be time to take your spring bath.  I may take mine pretty son, now that the weather is warmer.

Cheryl Hughes: Do You Hear What I Hear?

One of my favorite stories about the misinterpretations that young children make involves a bear.  A mother asked her young son what he had done in Sunday school that morning.  “We sang a song,” he said.
“What was the song about?” she asked.
“It was a song about a bear,” he answered.
“A bear?” the mother asked, incredulously—she couldn’t remember any Sunday school songs she had ever sung about a bear.
“Yes,” the little boy beamed, “Gladly, the cross-eyed bear (Gladly the Cross I’d Bear).

Jarrod Jacobs: Is It A Sin To Judge Others?

There are many today who say that we cannot “judge” another person, religiously. Those who say we cannot judge claim that to judge another is a violation of Matthew 7:1. In this passage, Jesus said, “Judge not, that you be not judged.” Yet, does this mean that Jesus condemned all judging? What is interesting to me is that judging seems to be accepted by people in other areas of life, just not in religion. Why is this?

Thoughts on Memorial Day from Senator Mike Wilson

At this time of year, it is of the utmost importance we take time to pay tribute to the brave men and women in uniform who have given the ultimate sacrifice to secure and protect our freedom and our way of life.

More than one million veterans have given their lives in service of our country.  Many of whom are from here in our community.  Some we remember, all we honor.  Their collective service spans centuries and continents.  Bound together by their common goal of protecting our freedom, their contribution is immeasurable.

Against The Grain/Billboard Music Awards Edition by: Andy Sullivan

Bruno Mars kicked off the 2013 Billboard Music Awards by performing a hit from his Unorthodox Jukebox album called “Treasure”.  It was a great performance from an excellent up and coming superstar. Comedian Tracy Morgan hosted the show held at the MGM Grand in Vegas.  He’s one of my favorite comedians, so I was looking forward to it.

With long summer days quickly approaching, many parents and grandparents may wonder where to take the family for a day of fun. If children are involved, finding close-to-home places – minimizing time spent in the car – is a bonus. If you are looking for a fun, family activity, you might consider an attraction in our area.
