Awhile back I wrote a column on earworms.  That sounds like a disease or condition.  If you remember, however, an earworm is a catchy song or tune that runs through a person’s mind. 

Like many people. I have a calendar on my desk with a quote for each day. I enjoy reading others’ thoughts about various topics. The following quotes are unconnected, and I have included my thoughts related to each.

Did you see this week’s story about the British teen who suffered vision and hearing loss due to his steady diet of junk food?  His symptoms had been showing up for years, but no one thought about checking his diet.  When he was fourteen years old, and complaining of tiredness, a doctor gave him B12 injections.  By age fifteen, he began to lose his hearing and developed trouble with his vision.  His vision continued to get worse, up to the point of being declared legally blind.

            Authority is something that is needed in every walk of life. When we talk about certain people having the “right” to do this or that, we are saying that they have the authority to do it. For example, only those “duly authorized” can wear a policeman’s badge. In like manner, what about when it comes to the Bible? Should there be a demand for authority in the Scriptures?

NOT A MISTAKE-At times in this column I may have mentioned the fact that I have often felt out of place in this world, all the way up to the point of wondering if I really belong in it at all, or if I might have slipped through the cracks as some kind of cosmic mistake, just biding my time, with no real purpose.

Celebrate Whole Grains This Month

                We have all heard that whole grains are a healthy option, but have you ever wondered what makes a grain whole?

The idea of an artist covering their favorite song is about as old as time.  What is the most covered song of all time? I went looking for the most recent list.  A list compiled in 2008 from https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/the-10-m... revealed The Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby” to be the most covered song.  I knew surely there had to be an updated, more recent list.  After all, things have changed in 11 years.

In the last few days, I’ve been thinking about pain and its causes. Wikipedia stated, “Pain is a distressing feeling often caused by intense or damaging stimuli. The International Association for the Study of Pain's widely used definition defines pain as ‘an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or described in terms of such damage.’ In medical diagnosis, pain is regarded as a symptom of an underlying condition” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pain).

The Power of Little Things:

How about the power of only 26 little letters of an English alphabet? These 26 English letters, translated from the Old Testament in Hebrew, have given us the 23rd Psalm – translated into over 400 languages all over the world, and, The Ten Commandments (from Exodus), also translated into language world-wide.
