Jarrod Jacobs: God’s Barriers On The Road To Hell

Picture a bridge that has washed away. When those working to repair the bridge come to the scene, they will put up barriers or barricades to keep people from endangering their lives and the lives of others. Barriers may have flashers, flags, and any other attention-getting device attached to them. This is because they are intended to warn people and keep them safe.

OPINION: On this Independence Day, recalling the Founders' views of a free press

By Dean Ridings CEO, America's Newspapers

America’s Founders regarded a free press as so vital to the new nation that they took care to include that right in the First Amendment to the Constitution.

Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

The 4th of July is near! It’s one of my favorite days. We traditionally celebrate with plenty of family and friends by eating then watching Morgantown’s fireworks. This year will be a bit different. We will have a small family group and no Morgantown fireworks. Nonetheless, I’m looking forward to the holiday.

Things you may not have known about some celebrities, in no particular order:

Before Charlie Pride became a country-music singing star, he was a pitcher in the minor baseball league. He once struck out the baseball great, Henry (Hank) Aaron.

Cheryl Hughes: Markers

Recently, I interviewed a memoirist.  I asked her, when she returned to the place where she was born, was she thankful that the house was no longer there.  She said, “Yes.”  I understood.  Once, I took my children to the site of Taylorsville Dam. I said, “Look to the right.  That’s where our house stood.”

Jarrod Jacobs: Christ Changes Us

When reading the New Testament, I am impressed with how Christ changes people’s lives. For example, when Christ chose four of the twelve men to be His apostles, He said, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matt. 4:19-21). He later would turn these fishermen into mountain-climbers (Matt. 17:1)! Christ also took Peter, a fisherman, and said He expected him to become a spiritual shepherd (Jn. 21:15-17).

As you know, I like learning new music facts.  I also like passing those onto you.  For instance, as I learned on Sirius XM’s ‘60’s on 6: did you know the Beatles opened for Tommy Roe in 1962? Yes, Joh, Paul, George and Ringo.  Hey, every artist starts opening for someone.  AXS’ show Top Ten Revealed taught me that the late Tom Petty used to be a grave digger.  He drew on that past career for the video for his hit “Mary Jane’s Last Dance”.

Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

We’re nearing the midpoint of 2020, and I’ve been thinking about three events. For me, Father’s Day, Independence Day, and my mom turning 90 are noteworthy. These events are mile markers.
