Cheryl Hughes; Potato Heritage

Recently, while I was following behind Garey and his tractor and plow, picking up potatoes, I was reminded of the Irish Potato Famine, 1845 – 1847, the worst year, 1847, is known as Black ’47.

Jarrod Jacobs: "God Didn't Make You Like That!"

At the end of Ecclesiastes 7, we read, “Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.” These words are a sober reminder that what God had in mind for man and what man has become are two very different things!

Letter to Editor: Jenny Hines

Dear Editor:  As a judicial candidate in Western Kentucky running for a Court of Appeals seat, I can’t help but notice the general unawareness throughout our area about this race.  I do not make this assertion to place blame, but simply as a statement of fact.  Ordinarily, there would not be a Court of Appeals seat open this year.  However, Judge—now Justice— Christopher “Shea” Nickell’s election to the Supreme Court of Kentucky last year left his seat vacant for the remainder of his term, which is set to expire in 2022.  This year has also been a very strange year with man

Most of us are familiar with the classic song “She’s Not There”.  Did you know that songwriter Rod Argent built the lyrics from a John Lee Hooker song, whose title of “No One Told Me” became a part of the opening of “She’s Not There”.  Following the April 29, 1964 performance by The Zombie

Cheryl Hughes: Think Ahead

Garey says that he and his sister, Charlotte, were admonished by their parents to “Think ahead” to the point that neither Garey nor Charlotte looks behind themselves.  I can attest to that.  Both leave a wake of destruction in their paths that is sometimes perilous to those comi

Jarrod Jacobs: Be not rash with thy mouth

The first seven verses of Ecclesiastes 5 remind us to be careful about the words we say. As we read this passage, we see that “a multitude of words” is associated with foolish behavior (Ecc. 5:3), vanity (v. 7), evil (v. 1), and sin (v. 6). The point being that God did not acknowledge their “speaking.” Most men see through the tactics of someone who “talks too much”!

Most everyone has added something to their repertoire during this time of Covid.  There is also something to be said for subtracting things that, let’s face it, just aren’t working for you anymore.  Whether it be a relationship, or, for the purposes of this article, social media.

Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

My grandson’s recent wedding turned my thoughts to our marital traditions. Indya Moore said, “Tradition is nothing but ancestral peer pressure,” and W. Somerset Maugham said, “Tradition is a guide and not a jailer” (https://www.brainyquote.com/topics/tradition-quotes). Although each wedding is different, tradition has a role in weddings. Five wedding traditions are considered below.
