BCMS Bears advance in GRVC Championship

Butler County Boy’s middle school basketball will come to a close this week, but hopefully not before the Bears bring home a championship trophy on Thursday night.  The Bears have had a successful season and ended with a 14 – 5 record giving the Bears a number one seed going into the tournament.  The Bears squared off in tournament action on Saturday, January 26th against a Breckinridge County team that they hadn’t seen all year due to a cancellation so the Bears didn’t know what to expect.   The Bears started out a little sluggish in the first quarter and found themselves down by 2 at 9 -7  before Blake Graham took charge in the second quarter putting in 11 points to give the Bears a 25 – 17 lead at halftime.   Once the Bears took charge they didn’t look back and won the first round of the tournament with a score of 55 – 33.  Graham finished with 18 points.  Kyle Casey had 13, Bailey Anderson 9, Kaleb Casey 9, Ty Burden 2, Caleb Hunt 2, and Chandler Franzell 2.
The Bears traveled back to Grayson County Tuesday night for a semi-final game against McLean County.   This would be no easy contest for the Bears because these two teams had met twice this year already with the teams splitting a win each.   With this in mind, the Bears came prepared.  Blake Graham scored 18 of the teams 24 first half points which was more than the Cougars entire team was able to put on the scoreboard at halftime giving the Bears a 24 – 12 lead at the break.  The Cougars didn’t give up that easily though.  They came back out in the third quarter and pulled to within 3 points of the Bears before BCMS was able to widen the gap again and come up with the big win.  The final score was Bears 51 Cougars 36.  Scoring for the Bears was Blake Graham 28, Kyle Casey 9, Bailey Anderson 8, and Caleb Hunt 6.

The Bears final game of the season will be Thursday night at Grayson County against the Muhlenberg North Stars for the championship of the GRVC.  The Bears have played the Stars two times this season already with the Bears coming out on top.  Come out to Grayson at 6:30 and support the BCMS Bears.
