BCMS Bears Head Toward GRVC Tournament

Butler County Middle School boy's basketball hasn't seen much action in 2013 due to cancellations and school being dismissed for illness.  Both 7th and 8th grade teams have had four games in the new year with the 8th grade team coming out on top all four times.  The first game of the new year was against Muhlenberg North at their place, which the Bears took easily with a score of 43 - 36.  Two Bears got into double digits with Blake Graham scoring 17 and Bailey Anderson getting 14.  Ty Burden had 6, Kyle Casey 3, Chandler Franzell 2, and Kaleb Casey 1.

Next the Bears squared off against McLean County.  This game was of special importance because the winner would clench the top seed for the GRVC Tournament.  The Bears faced them in their first game of the season and came up on the short end of the stick.  What was expected to be a tight game, turned out to be a blow out in favor of the Bears.  They won handily with a score of 49 - 31.  The Bears started out a little slow and fell behind in the first quarter but took control in the second quarter.  Blake Graham led all scorers with 21.  Bailey Anderson contributed 13, Kyle Casey 8, Caleb Hunt 3, Kaleb Casey 2, Thomas Cherry 1, and Brennan Grubb 1.

The Bears other two wins came against Bowling Green Homeschool  and Warren East.  The Warren East game  gave Blake Graham his season high 27 points thanks to numerous assists from Bailey Anderson who saw a double double himself scoring 11 points.  Kaleb Casey had 8, Caleb Hunt 2, and Kyle Casey 1.

The seventh grade team faced the same competition but didn't have the same results.  The game against Muhlenberg North saw the 7th grade team with 20 plus turnovers which kept the Bears from getting their offense going.  Leading scorer in that game was Brennan Grubb with 11.  Skyler Moore had 6, and Patton Allen had 4.   The Bears dropped that one 51 - 21.

The Bears had a much better game against McLean County.  Brennan Grubb came up with several deflections and steals which led to his season high 22 points.  Caleb Beasley also got in double digits with 11.  Patton Allen had 6 and Gage Ward 1.  The Bears gave a valiant effort and only lost this one by 2, 42 - 40.

The seventh grade team did pull out a win against Bowlling Green Homeschool.  After a very physical contest, the Bears came out on top 48 - 44.  Brennan Grubb was once again the Bears leading scorer with 19.  Caleb Beasley had 12, Gage Ward 9, and Skyler Moore, Neil Bewley, Andrew Henry and Justin Elms with 2 each.

The Warren East game was a tough one for the 7th grade team.  The absence of Caleb Beasley, due to illness, was aparent as the Bears struggled offensively only putting a total of 13 points on the scoreboard.  Brennan Grubb had 5, Patton Allen 4, Andrew Henry 2, and Justin Elms 2.

The Bears will round out their regular season with a game Thursday night against Bowling Green Homeschool before starting GRVC tournament play on Saturday.
