Oak Ridge Lady Warriors pick up two wins

Oak Ridge Lady Warriors defeated Daysprings Christian Academy on January 28th at home, 25-10.  Hannah Burden led the team with 19 points, 4 rebounds and 8 steals. Jasmine Alford had 7 rebounds and 6 steals, Amber Pendley had 2 points, Piper Pendley had 2 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals, DeeDee Bratcher had 2 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, Gabby Harris had 1 rebound, Bailee Bratcher had 1 rebound and 1 steal, and Kaelyn Bratcher had 4 rebounds.

Butler County Middle School basketball season comes to a close.

Butler County Middle School basketball season came to a close Friday night at the GRVC Tournament.  After snow prevented the event from happening last Saturday, both seventh and eighth grade teams traveled to Breckinridge County Friday night.  The seventh grade team took the floor first to play the number one seed in the tournament, Hancock County.  A very skilled Hancock County team jumped out to an early lead, putting 20 points on the board in the first quarter.  The Bears struggled to find the scoreboard and get the ball down the floor against the Cougars tough full court press.  The Cou

Joe K. Morris: Armchair All Star

 Sometimes when you do something, and fail miserably at it, you're able to at least learn a bit from it. That's how it's been with me and my miserable attempt to pick 70% off this season's NFL games correctly.

I really did fail miserably. I think my final winning percentage was somewhere south of 65%, and most of what I thought I knew about the NFL fell by the wayside. However I learned some things, and I think I'm a better NFL fan because if it.

Bears come up short against McLean Co. Cougars

The Butler County Bears efforts to defend their 2013 3rd Region All “A” Championship fell short in the semi-finals on Thursday night, when they fell to the McLean County Cougars by a final score of 74-64.

The Bears started strong, bolting out to an early 7-2 lead in the first quarter, behind a hot start by Zeke Woodcock. However the three-point shooters for McLean County began heating up, as the Bears struggled to finish around the basket. By the end of the first the Bears trailed 14-11.

Hunters post another record deer harvest

A year after establishing an overall deer harvest record, Kentucky hunters did it again.
The 2013-14 deer season in Kentucky ended Jan. 20 with a total harvest of 144,404 animals. That represents a gain of more than 9 percent over the previous record set during the 2012-13 season.

WEATHER UPDATE: All "A" boys' semifinals moved to Thursday; championship set for Friday

UPDATE:  Tonight's boys' semifinal games in the Touchstone Energy All "A" Classic have cancelled and rescheduled for Thursday night.  Owensboro Catholic will face Whitesville at 5:30 p.m. and Butler County will play McLean County at approximately 7:30 p.m.  This weather-related schedule change will combine both the boys and girls championship games on Friday night.  The Owensboro Catholic-McLean girls' championship game will be at 6.  The boys' championship game will follow and will feature the Catholic/Trinity winner against the Butler/McLean winner.

BCMS 8th Grade basketball players, cheerleaders recognized

The Butler County Middle School boys' basketball team and cheerleaders recognized its 8th grade members last week.  The BCMS Bears defeated Glasgow 42-36 on 8th Grade Night before a packed middle school gym.  8th grade players an cheerleaders, as well as their parents, were honored in between the 7th and 8th grade games.

BCMS Boys Back in Action

After three long weeks, the Butler County Middle School Bears basketball team finally took the floor again for three home games.  Action began Monday night as the Bears hosted Muhlenberg North.  The Bears were rusty from their long absence from the hardwood and it showed.  It took three quarters for the Bears to get the cobwebs cleaned and start playing ball, but it was too little too late, and the Bears fell 41-30.

Jr. Pro Basketball and Cheerleading in full swing

The love of basketball has been a Butler County tradition for many years, and that love is being taught early through our county's Jr. Pro program.  Every Saturday from December through March one of the elementary schools is packed with cheering parents and enthusiastic kids learning the fundamentals of basketball.
