Bears come up short against McLean Co. Cougars

The Butler County Bears efforts to defend their 2013 3rd Region All “A” Championship fell short in the semi-finals on Thursday night, when they fell to the McLean County Cougars by a final score of 74-64.

The Bears started strong, bolting out to an early 7-2 lead in the first quarter, behind a hot start by Zeke Woodcock. However the three-point shooters for McLean County began heating up, as the Bears struggled to finish around the basket. By the end of the first the Bears trailed 14-11.

In the second period the hot shooting for the Cougars continued, with both Jacob Revlett and Will Hudson both striking multiple times from long range. For the Bears Trevor Jenkins and Zeke Woodcock carried the load to keep the game close at halftime, with the score McLean County-32, Butler County-25.

McLean County continued to hit from long-range in the third period, with their top player Jacob Revlett taking over the game. Revlett scored 9 of his game-high 29 points in the 3rd period as the Cougars pushed their lead to 11 at the end of the period.

The Bears tried to mount two runs in the fourth period, only to have them stopped by the shooting of Will Hudson, and Josh Kirk. Zeke Woodcock continued to score at a strong pace for the Bears, but in the end the long-range shooting of the Cougars downed the Bears. The Cougars advanced to the Finals of the 3rd Region All “A” Classic by a final score of 74-64.

Jacob Revlett led all scorers with 29-points, with Zeke Woodcock leading the Bear scoring with 26-points.

The Cougars fell to Owensboro Catholic on Friday night in the Finals, by a final score of 54-41.

Future Butler County Bears

 

Butler County's Zeke Woodcock made the All Tournament Team, while Trevor Jenkins was named to the All Academic Team.
