Proper disposal of the carcass often a challenge for deer hunters

Thousands of Kentucky hunters will hit the woods this Saturday, Nov. 10, the opening day of modern gun deer season.

“It is a great way to get free range, organic natural meat,” said Tina Brunjes, big game coordinator for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. “You can also feed your family with healthy meat.”

After storing your hunting clothes in a bag with leaves and fresh earth to remove your smell, getting up in the pre-dawn to be in the woods before first light and selecting a good setup spot, you take a nice, fat doe.

Pep Rally, Parade as BCMS celebrates championship

A large crowd was on hand late Sunday night as the State Champion Butler County Middle School football team returned to Morgantown.  An impromptu pep rally was held at the middle school gym and the team went on parade through town celebrating the championship.  

 

BCHS Bears' season ends at Caldwell

The BCHS Bears football season came to a close on the road at Caldwell County High School last Friday night, falling to the #1 seed Caldwell County Tigers by the score of 51-14.  The Bears, the #4 seed, came in as a heavy underdog. It was the final game of their high school career for six BCHS senior football players: Levi Johnson, Elijah Flener, Cole Dean, Jacob Richmond, Ricky Palmer and Dylan Havens.

Although the Butler County High School Bears' football team came up short Friday night, several fans made the trip to support the team as you can see in these images "from the sidelines."  

CHAMPIONS: BCMS Football captures KY Middle School State Football Title

With two convincing wins over the weekend, the Butler County Middle School Bears 8th grade football team brought a Kentucky Middle School State Championship football trophy back to Morgantown on Sunday  The championship is the culmination of a perfect, storybook season for the Bears, who finished with and unblemished 14-0 record.  Leading the Bears on the sidelines this season were Head Coach Lloyd Havens and Assistant Coach Mark Allen.    

BC Girls' XC advances to state

BCHS Girls' XC Team

The Butler County Cross-Country team competed in the Class 2A Regional meet on Saturday November 3rd where the girls team took Region Runners-Up Honors.  It is the first time in 9 seasons a full team has qualified for the state meet. Team members include Chanda Hampton, Amy Rogers, Olivia Neighbors, Maranda Pierson, Hannah Perry, Dalys Bishop, Kierra Neighbors, and Hannah Logan.

Three BC softball players attend college expo

Three Butler County High School softball players attended a college expo event on Thursday, October 18.  Madeline Drake, Amy Rogers, and Lynsie Clark attended the all-day event sponsored by BSA Softball of Scottsville and held at Campbellsville University.  Coaches and scouts from over 50 colleges and universities were on hand as players were evaluated on a variety of softball skills. 

Drake is a senior shortstop.  Clark and Rogers, both juniors, play third base and catcher, respectively.  

Butler, Caldwell to square off in round one of KHSAA football playoffs

KHSAA playoff football is set to begin tomorrow night, Friday, November 2, as the Butler County Bears (6-4) travel to Princeton to face Caldwell County (7-3).

Coach Ryan Emmick's Bears expect a formidable foe.    

BCMS Bears 2012

The 12-0 BCMS Football Bears will be in action in the KYMSFA State Final Four Saturday, November 3rd at Lexington Catholic High School. The semi-final game is an 11am kickoff central standard time/ 12 noon EST.  The opponent is Lexington Christian Academy Middle School .

Pep Rally at Pizza Zone

There will be a PEP RALLY at Pizza Zone on Thursday, November 1 at 6:00 pm for the BCHS and BCMS football teams. We would like to see everyone come out and support the Bears! Remember: GO! FIGHT! WIN!
