Tennis Teams finish regular season, head to regional...

The Butler County Tennis Team just concluded another successful season of tennis Wednesday night at the city park with a match against Muhlenberg County.  Before the match began, the team’s three seniors were recognized.  The boy’s team had one senior this year, Dakota Merrick.  The girl’s team had two seniors, Chanda Hampton and Katona Dockery.  Rain and freezing temperatures forced several cancellations for the team this year, but both teams were able to finish the season with impressive winning records.

The boys finished the season with a 10 and 4 record.   Key wins for the boys included a big win at South Warren as well as several key region wins against Ohio County,  Owensboro, Frederick Fraize, and Hancock County.  All five boys will be advancing to play in the regional tournament in Owensboro next week.  Brennan Grubb will represent the team in singles.  Matthew Embry and Dakota Merrick will play doubles as will Remmington Harpe and Austin Phelps.

The girls concluded the season with a 10 – 4 – 1 record.  They had to suspend play at Hancock County due to light failure on their courts.  The match was tied at the time 4-4.  The girls also had several impressive wins this season.  Some noteable wins include regional victories against Owensboro Catholic, Ohio County, Hancock County, Frederick Fraize,  and Owensboro.  The top six seeded girls on the team will be representing Butler County in the regional tournament next week.  Jasmine Creager and Kelsey Hughson will be playing singles while Emily Wallace and Rachel Johnson will play doubles.  Also playing doubles for the Bears will be Chanda Hampton and Katona Dockery.  Hampton and Dockery earned a three seed spot in the tournament for their excellent play throughout the season.

Regional Tournament will begin Monday afternoon at 4 PM with first and second round matches at Mooreland Park and Kentucky Weslyn College.  Good luck to everyone heading to region next week.  The top four finishers in each division will advance to state.
