KY Afield Outdoors: Hunters post KY’s second-highest deer harvest on record

After two seasons of record harvests, Kentucky’s deer hunters kept the pace up this past season.
The 2014-15 season closed on Jan. 19 with 138,892 deer checked; the second highest total on record and third consecutive season with a harvest exceeding 130,000 deer.

B.C.H.S. Baseball team to host annual chili supper

The Butler County High School Baseball team is selling chili supper tickets for February 6th.  This will be done at the school on the same night as the homecoming basketball game vs. Grayson County.  The meal will be $6 and includes chili, hot dog, dessert and a drink and will be served in the Commons Area.  Game admission is separate.  Take-outs are welcome and the meal starts at 5 p.m. and will be served until the food is gone.

B.C.M.S. hosts 8th grade recogniton for boys' basketball, cheerleaders

Butler County Middle School held its 8th grade recognition night on Thursday, January 8, at a home game against Russellville.  A total of 19 student-athletes were hononred, along with their parents, for their contributions to the middle school basketball and cheerleading programs.  The Bears defeated Russellville in the 8th grade game but fell in the 7th grade game.

Butler sweeps Trinity in 12th District doubleheader

Both Butler County basketball teams got back on the winning track on Friday night with a pair of home wins over 12th District foe Whitesville Trinity.  The Bears started the evening with an 80-58 win over the Raiders. In the nightcap, the Lady Bears cruised to a 59-32 win over the Lady Raiders.  The wins put both teams with
a 1-1 district record.

Butler drops pair of games to Edmonson in first district contest

The Edmonson County Wildcats and Lady 'Cats came to Morgantown on Friday night and left with two 12th District wins over Butler County.  

In the first game of the girl-boy doubleheader, the Butler County Lady Bears played a strong game but fell 61-47.  In the nightcap, the Bears came up short 64-54 in what was a close game throughout.

Symbolism key to Lady Bears' 2014-15 team photo

Large display photos of athletic teams hanging in school gymnasiums have become a common occurrence in recent years.  However, when fans see the current Butler County Lady Bears photo this season, it may raise a few questions.  It's not your traditional team photo that most fans have become accustomed to - and that's exactly what the team and coaching staff were shooting for.

The stretch between Christmas and New Year's Day can be a time to relax, reflect and make resolutions for the year ahead.
The Wildlife Division of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is well into its planning for the 2015-16 hunting seasons, and one word keeps coming up in the discussions.
Opportunity.
The focus is not limited to one species, but plans pertaining to deer, elk and small game stand out.
