Morgantown-Butler County Swim Team off to a great start!

The Morgantown-Butler County Swim Team, MBCST, has gotten off to a great start this season.  We held our first meet last week June 16th.  This was our annual Relay meet teams in attendance were The Portland Sting Rays and The Scottsville Seadragons.


There were some delays due to the weather though the teams were kept entertained by some good music and doing some line dances.

29 girls attend 14th Annual B.C.H.S. Softball Camp

A near-capacity number of participants took part in the 14th Annual Butler County High School Softball Camp, which was held June 8-12 at the B.C.H.S. Softball Field.  Rained out on Monday, June 8, the camp ran through Friday, June 12 with 29 girls talking part.  The camp is hosted by the B.C.H.S. softball team and is designed to teach young players the proper fundamentals of fastpitch softball.  It also serves as an important fundraiser for the team.

Jakes' Day 2015

A total of 106 young anglers took part in the Annual Butler County Longbeard's Jakes Day event on Saturday at the Haynes Family property in the Leonard Oak community of Butler County. Each angler paid $15, was provided lunch and got to keep all the fish they caught.

2015 Little Lady Bear Basketball Camp set for June 22-24

The 2015 Butler County Little Lady Bear Camp will be held, June 22nd-24th, at Butler County High School’s gym and will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. This camp is for any Little Lady Bear who will be entering Kindergarten through 8th grade.

B.C. Girls' Softball holds end-of-season tournament

Heart Breakers - Champions in the 9-12 year old division

A full day of softball was played on Saturday, June 6, as Butler County High School played host to the Butler County Girls' Softball League's end-of-season tournament.  A total of eight teams took part in the day-long event.  The morning session consisted of three games in the 5-8 league. In the championship game, the Explosion defeated the Blue Diamonds 8-5.

Bears Softball ends season with 3-0 loss to Meade in 3rd Region Tournament

Butler County Softball's season came to an end on Thursday, May 28, with a 3-0 loss to Meade County in the Third Region Tournament.  Sophomore pitcher Zoie Pendley was named to the Third Region All Tournament Team.  Pendley scattered six hits and struck out four batters over six innings of work.  Madison Clark, Taylor King, Emily Rich, Cheyenne White, and Zoie Pendley all singled for Butler County.

Encounters with young wildlife increase in spring as people spend more time outdoors.
An unattended deer fawn curled up in tall grass. A litter of rabbits discovered alone in the backyard. A baby bird furiously flapping its wings but struggling to get off the ground.

BCHS Softball: 12th District Runner-Up

The Butler County High School softball team came up short last week in its bid to win a 12th District title.  The Bears fell 5-0 to host Grayson County.  Things got away from the Bears in the second inning as the Cougars put together a string of hits, while taking advanage of a Butler County error, in plating five runs during the inning.  Meanwhile, Butler County was able to scatter only five hits for the game and never advanced a runner to third base.

Gaskey Named Head Softball Coach at St. Mary's H.S. in Paducah

St. Mary High School is pleased to welcome former Murray State pitcher CheyAnne Gaskey as the new Lady Viking softball coach for 2015-16. Ms. Gaskey's name peppers the record books of the KHSAA, as well as MSU.

St. Mary High School is a private, Roman Catholic high school in Paducah, Kentucky. It is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Owensboro and is part of the St. Mary School System, which also includes elementary and middle schools.

Butler County Bears Softball gets 5-1 win over Trinity in district play

An impressive two-way performance from senior pitcher Kassie Phelps led the Butler County Bears softball team to a 5-1 win Tuesday over Trinity, as Phelps came up huge at the dish and on the rubber.

Phelps had two extra-base hits for the Bears. She singled in the second inning and doubled in the fourth and fifth innings.

Phelps kept contact to a minimum, striking out seven Trinity batters. She allowed no earned runs, five hits and no walks over seven innings.

Trinity managed to score one run in the first inning on an RBI-single by Nina Wathen.
