The William Natcher Parkway was shut down on Saturday evening as fire fighters battled a truck fire. The trailer caught fire between Exit 28 and Exit 29 at approximately 7:15 pm. The tractor trailer, owned by U.S. Express, was hauling laundry detergent from Chattanooga, Tennessee to Illinois. The trailer was a complete loss along with 75 to 80 percent of the cargo. 

The Butler County Grand Jury returned indictments against 18 individuals.  Charges included theft, burglary, assault, unlawful transaction with a minor, and drugs.

Kristina Hart (DOB 4/23/93) of 105 Western Place, #D, Bowling Green, KY was indicted on the following charges: Five Counts—Theft by Unlawful Taking under $500.00.  Witness Paul Burden, MPD.

"If you asked 100 random citizens when is Flag Day, probably only about 10 or 15 could tell you that it’s June 14th. Today, the banks are open, the mail will run, you won’t see advertisements for special at retail stores. It’s just a normal, working day for most Americans," said Lynda Tyree during her opening remarks at the Butler County Chapter NSDAR Flag Day Program.

A large crowd saw a sometimes testy meeting of the Morgantown City Council on Thursday night.  The contention was on the possible elimination on the Morgantown Police Department, next fiscal year’s budget, and the level of community support for the Catfish Festival and the Chamber of Commerce.

The Butler County Board of Education held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday night. In the Superintendent’s report, Scott Howard recognized the Campbellsville Excellence in Teaching Award recipients, Lisa Rhoades, Penny Wallace, and Kassie Decker.  Principals Jeff Jennings and Pat O’Driscoll both attended the ceremony with the teachers at Campbellsville University in May. 

Superintendent Howard said, “We have been doing this for several years and we really appreciate the opportunity. It’s a great way for our teachers to be recognized in a formal setting.”

Western Kentucky University has announced the students named to the Dean’s and President’s lists for the spring 2012 semester. Full-time undergraduate students with a semester grade-point average of 3.4 to 3.79 are named to the Dean’s List. Students with a GPA of 3.8 to 4.0 are named to the President’s List. Their names are marked with an asterisk (*).

A single vehicle accident on Rochester Road yesterday left four individuals shaken up but not injured.  According to law enforcement officers the group was headed swimming at Lake Malone and failed to negotiate the curve, over-corrected and flipped the vehicle.  All individuals where out of the vehicle when authorities arrived.  Responding to the scene were Butler County Rescue Squad, EMS, Sheriff's Department, and Third District Fire Department.  The driver and passengers all refused treatment.

The Butler County Fiscal Court held its monthly meeting for June on Monday night. The meeting was designated as a ‘special called’ meeting so it could be held at the Little Muddy Rural Development Center. After a potluck meal provided by the ladies of Little Muddy the meeting was turned over to Judge-Executive David Fields and the rest of the Fiscal Court.

Before school was out for the summer, Regent and Flag Chairman Melanie Hunt, Casey Porter, DAR member and Christine Coleman, Registrar presented a program to 115 members of the 2nd Grade at Morgantown Elementary School.  Mrs. Coleman talked to the students about patriotism and Regent Hunt taught them about respect for the flag.  The finale to the program was reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.  Each student was given a flag and copy of the Flag Code to take home.
