Beech Tree joins KY Press News Service

Beech Tree News, already a member of the Kentucky Press Association (KPA), has signed on with the organization's news service, which will provide BtN readers with access to headlines from across the state.  As a member of the KY Press News Service, Beech Tree News and WLBQ 1570 AM will be able to connect its readers/listeners with a broader spectrum of news from different parts of the state, as well as have its stories made available to other media outlets throughout Kentucky.

According to John Embry, BtN vice-president and co-founder, the new collaboration will benefit both listeners of WLBQ and readers of Beech Tree News.

"We're in the process of developing a news feature with stories of interest from around the state in a format that is appealing to our readers and listeners," said Embry.  "It is our goal to present this diverse news in a way that our readers/listeners will like."

Additionally, stories that are posted on Beech Tree News may be exported by the KPA to other news outlets across the state, which is exactly what happened on Monday, June 11.  Among the items released to members on its PM News Budget was a story posted by Beech Tree News about State Representative C.B. Embry's wife, Wanda, being attacked by a Pit Bull at a local business.  The story was originally posted on BtN on Friday, June 8.

"We're happy to contribute to the KPA News Service and to make our stories available as part of this agreement," said Embry.  "In fact, we had only been a member of the KY Press News Service for a few days and they already used one of our stories - we appreciate that."

Founded in 1869 at Frankfort, the Kentucky Press Association is the 10th oldest state press association in the country.

According to its website (www.kypress.com), "the purpose of this corporation is to promote the interests of its members, the newspapers of Kentucky; to expand their field of endeavor; to maintain a high code of ethics among all journalists; to enhance the usefulness of the newspaper industry and to promote and maintain a spirit of fraternal regard among its members; and to do any and all things necessary to carry out the purposes of this corporation."

"We're glad to support a professional organization like the KPA and we appreciate the many services - like the KY Press News Service - the Association provides to its members," added Embry.
