WASHINGTON -- Eighty-four female high school students from 29 states will plan a simulated mission to Mars and experience life as an engineer or scientist when NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston hosts two events focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in June and July. Butler County High School student Hollie Coleman, the daughter of Mike Coleman and Renee Coleman, has been selected to attend this prestigous program.

For the Butler County School District, the filling of one principal position has led to the vacancy of another.  Earlier this month Jeff Jennings was hired as the new principal at North Butler Elementary, creating a principal vacancy at Butler County Middle School.  

The Butler County Sheriff's Department is asking for your help to catch the person(s) responsible for breaking into the J & J Market, located in the Davis Crossroads community in Butler County. Thieves gained entry to the store late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning by breaking the glass out of the door and busting it in. They stole tobacco products along with candy and over 100 DVDs before leaving the premises. The store was also broken in to this past February.

Retired U.S. Army Sergeant Gary L. Wolfinbarger was honored on the courthouse lawn this afternoon when he received a Purple Heart for his service to his country in Afghanistan. Sgt. Wolfinbarger suffered multiple injuries after the vehicle he was in was struck by an improvised explosive device, or IED, on December 14, 2008.

On June 25, more than two hundred outstanding student musicians will gather at the University of Louisville for five days of rehearsal and performances prior to departing to seven European countries for a 16-day tour.

Shelby and Rachel Rose, of Morgantown, have been selected for this honor. Both girls have been a member of the Butler County High School choral program, directed by Darryl Dockery. Shelby and Rachel are the daughters of Phillip and Rebecca Rose.

This past week Annis Farms lost a significant amount of hay due to two separate fires. The first hay fire last week claimed several bales of hay on their farm off Big D Road. They then lost 12-15 bales of hay on their farm in Logansport.

 A Sunday morning wreck landed two men Denny Alonzo, 33 and Ernesto Ramirez, 26, of Morgantown, in Butler County Jail. The vehicle left the road around 8:30am at the top of Flat Rock Hill along Rochester Road, traveled down the embankment and rolled over onto its top. The duo was driving a 2001 blue van.

The William Natcher Parkway was shut down on Saturday evening as fire fighters battled a truck fire. The trailer caught fire between Exit 28 and Exit 29 at approximately 7:15 pm. The tractor trailer, owned by U.S. Express, was hauling laundry detergent from Chattanooga, Tennessee to Illinois. The trailer was a complete loss along with 75 to 80 percent of the cargo. 

The Butler County Grand Jury returned indictments against 18 individuals.  Charges included theft, burglary, assault, unlawful transaction with a minor, and drugs.
