Tuck named new principal at BCMS

A familiar face will soon  be taking the reins at Butler County Middle School as Assistant Principal Robert Tuck has been named the school's new principal.  Tuck will replace Jeff Jennings, who was recently tapped as the new principal at North Butler Elementary.

A Thank You from Chief Billy Phelps

To: Mayor Linda Keown, City of Morgantown and its Great Citizens,

I, Billy Phelps, do hereby resign my position as the Chief of Police with the Morgantown Police Department effective June 30, 2012.

It has been an honor to help protect and Defend the citizens of this community, county, and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

I have been fortunate enough over the past 24 years to work with a lot of good men who have put their jobs as Police Officers with the City of Morgantown above their own lives.


BC Boys & Girls Club's First Poker Run

The Boys and Girls Club of Morgantown held its First Annual Poker Run on Saturday, June 23rd.  A great turn out of riders met at the city park to check in for the 70 mile scenic ride. Proceeds from the Poker Run will be used to help local children attend summer camp.

Saturday, June 16, 2012, was a day of celebration, in Commiskey, Indiana, Heart to Heart Publishing, Inc. of Morgantown launched a new title, Secrets of the Garden Path, with Recipes, authored by Betty Manning.


Natalie Hughes Authors Children's Book

Anyone familiar with Cheryl Hughes (recently profiled in the BTN article "Cheryl Hughes: Renaissance Woman") won't find it at all surprising that one of her progeny, Natalie, has decided to pursue a career in writing. The unexpected part may be the type of prose that Natalie has chosen to compose: on September 5th, Heart-to-Heart Publishing will release Natalie's first book, a children's yarn called Goodie 2 Shoes.


Drug Task Force Auction June 29

The Bowling Green – Warren County Drug Task Force will conduct an auction June 29, 2012 of drug seized/forfeited vehicles.  It will be in front of the Warren County Courthouse at 4PM. The vehicles will be on display to the public after 1PM that day. Eighty Five percent of the proceeds of the sale go back into the task force operations with fifteen percent going to the Warren County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office operations.



NASA set to host future female explorers; Coleman to attend

WASHINGTON -- Eighty-four female high school students from 29 states will plan a simulated mission to Mars and experience life as an engineer or scientist when NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston hosts two events focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in June and July. Butler County High School student Hollie Coleman, the daughter of Mike Coleman and Renee Coleman, has been selected to attend this prestigous program.


B.C.M.S. begins search for new principal

For the Butler County School District, the filling of one principal position has led to the vacancy of another.  Earlier this month Jeff Jennings was hired as the new principal at North Butler Elementary, creating a principal vacancy at Butler County Middle School.
