Fiscal Court Debates Land Issues

The Butler County Fiscal Court held its monthly meeting for August on Monday night, August 13th, 2013. All Court members were present, along with a fairly large crowd of visitors and interested parties. Most of the extra attendees showed up because of recent media reports of a sale of property in Butler county by the City of Bowling Green. The property in question was allegedly being sold to Owl’s Head Alloys for the purpose of opening a landfill.

The proposed sale of property on Rochester Road wasn’t the only business before the Butler County Fiscal Court at its regular monthly meeting for August. Several other agenda items awaited the Court at the Monday, August 12th, 2013 meeting.

Arts Guild Tours Scottsville

Members of the BCAG hear about the Heart of Scottsville's restoration project and their plans to bring new businesses to the downtown district.

On Friday, August 9th a group representing the Butler County Arts Guild traveled to Allen County to tour Scottsville and get some fresh ideas on how to bring the creative arts and historic restoration to the forefront of Butler County and Morgantown culture.
Jamie Boler, Heart of Scottsville's Main Street Manager, had previously spoken at a meeting of the Butler County Arts Guild and extended an invitation to its members to visit their city.

Sale of property in limbo

Owl's Head Alloys in Bowling Green.

There could be a hitch in an agreement to sell an unused portion of a city of Bowling Green-owned landfill in Butler County to a Bowling Green business if the city of Morgantown decides to exercise its option to purchase the property.

Members of the Morgantown City Council voted Thursday evening to postpone a decision on whether to release their option to purchase 67 acres of unused property at the landfill in Butler County. The option to purchase was included in documents for original sale of the property in the 1970s to Bowling Green.

Butler County Judge David Fields and Mayor Linda Keown sign proclamations declaring Morgantown and Butler County Purple Heart communities.

Morgantown became the 43rd Purple Heart City and Butler County became the 44th Purple Heart County in Kentucky on Wednesday, August 7. The ceremony was held at the Eva J. Hawes Community Building by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5837 Ladies Auxiliary and the Butler County National Society Daughters of the America Revolution.
Morgantown Mayor Linda Keown and Butler County Judge Executive David Fields signed proclamations declaring the Purple Heart status for the city and county.

City Council hears from citizens concerning land purchase for landfill.

The Morgantown City Council heard from groups of citizens on both the old Bowling Green landfill property and speeding on Oak Hill Drive during Thursday night’s regular monthly meeting.

Mayor, judge-executive question BG City Commission's vote to sell property in Butler County

The Bowling Green City Commission, on Tuesday, approved a municipal order authorizing the sale of 67 acres off KY 70 West (Rochester Road) in Butler County to Owl's Head Alloys, an aluminum recycling company located in Bowling Green.

Groundbreaking held for new "Walls of Honor;" effort spearheaded by VFW Ladies Auxiliary

On Monday morning, August 5, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5837 Ladies Auxiliary in Morgantown held a groundbreaking ceremony on the Butler County Courthouse lawn for the new "Walls of Honor " honoring veterans.

The Butler County Fiscal Court granted approval in May to the Ladies Auxiliary to enhance the existing VFW Monument on the south lawn of the courthouse.

"Many of the bricks were defaced and so much sand on them that you couldn't read the names," said Jennifer Odle, a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
