Mayor, judge-executive question BG City Commission's vote to sell property in Butler County

The Bowling Green City Commission, on Tuesday, approved a municipal order authorizing the sale of 67 acres off KY 70 West (Rochester Road) in Butler County to Owl's Head Alloys, an aluminum recycling company located in Bowling Green.

A story published in Wednesday's Daily News, quoting Bowling Green City Manager Kevin DeFebbo, indicated that the city of Morgantown was given the first right of refusal on the property and wasn't interested in purchasing it.  The article doesn't mention Butler County government.  However, officials with the city of Morgantown and Butler County Fiscal Court informed Beech Tree News/WLBQ that they haven't told the city of Bowling Green anything.  In fact, both the city and county have the item on their respective agendas for their next monthly meeting.  The Morgantown City Council will meet on Thursday, August 8, while Butler Fiscal Court will meet on Monday, August 12.

According to Morgantown Mayor Linda Keown and Butler County Judge-Executive David Fields, the city and county have the first option to buy the property if it is sold.  Neither Mayor Keown nor Judge Fields have told any Bowling Green official that their respective governments were not interested in the property.

The land is adjacent to the landfill property also owned by the city of Bowling Green.  Owl's Head, according to the Daily News story, is offering the city of Bowling Green $167,500 for the property.

According to the Daily News article, a new landfill operated by Owl's Head would create three jobs in Bowling Green and two in Butler County.
