City Council Debates Salaries

The Morgantown City Council spent a lengthy meeting Thursday night on the condition of softball fields, discussion of mayoral and council salaries, and an update on the city website.

Morgantown Elementary recognized by the Kentucky Board of Education

Morgantown Elementary was recently recognized by the Kentucky Board of Education and the Kentucky Department of Education for receiving the designation of a Kentucky High-Progress School under the 2012-2013 Unbridled Learning Assessment and Accountability System.  A high-progress school is a school that is in the top 10 percent of improving schools among similar schools in the state.  In his letter to Morgantown Elementary Principal Greg Woodcock,  Commissioner Holliday said, “Morgantown Elementary School is a model of positive change for other schools in Kentucky.”  Commi

Chad Tyree Seeks Re-Election As Third District Magistrate

Spring Playschool 2014

The Butler County Child Development classes will conduct a Playschool for preschool children.  The days will be Tuesdays for 2 ½ and 3 year-olds, Wednesdays for 4 year-olds and Fridays for 5 year-olds; however, we are willing to work with parents on scheduling.  Children who are presently enrolled in kindergarten are not eligible to attend.  All children must be potty-trained.

18th Annual Butler County FFA Farm Toy and Antique Tractor Show

The 18th Annual Butler County FFA Farm Toy and Antique Tractor Show was held March 8, 2014 from 9-3 pm at the Butler County High School. Over 11 vendors were on hand along with toy farm displays, and toy tractors.  The Corn play box was also a great hit.

School Board Discusses Make-Up Days

The Butler County Board of Education regular monthly meeting focused on makeup days in the current school calendar and whether to cancel part or all of spring break.  Superintendent Scott Howard told the Board that 19 days of school have been missed so far, and the school district has to meet a state requirement of 170 days of instruction.  Currently the school district is three days past the scheduled last day of school of May 30.

Rayna Beller County Grandparent of the Year Essay Contest Winner

A North Butler Elementary student was selected Butler County Winner in the 2013-2014 Grandparent of the Year essay contest sponsored by AARP Kentucky, the Kentucky Retired Teachers, and the Butler County Retired Teachers' Association.  Rayna Beller of Morgntown, is among thousands of Kentucky fifth graders who participated in the 13th Annual Essay competition for 2013-2014. Rayna was recognized at the meeting of the Butler County Retired Teachers.

Changes At Aberdeen Post Office

The Postal Service has concluded the Post Plan review process for the Aberdeen Post Office.  Customer survey responses, input from the community meeting, and the operational needs of the Postal Service were considered in the implementation decision.

Fiscal Court travels to Woodbury Museum

Sheriff Scottie Ward gave the squires a check for $22,632.74 for the 2013 settlement  of the sheriff's office.

The Butler County Fiscal Court met Monday, March 10th at the Woodbury Museum. While the meeting was classed as a special session because of the change in venue, it was the Court's regular March meeting. Fifth District Magistrate Keith Daugherty was absent from the meeting. Several visitors were at the meeting including 2nd District Magistrate candidate Dale Willis, and Morgantown Mayoral Candidate Billy Phelps.
