Radon: Test. Fix. Save a Life.

The Barren River District Health Department is working to raise awareness about the dangers of radon gas.  Radon is a naturally occurring, invisible, odorless, tasteless gas that is dispersed in outdoor air, but which can reach harmful levels when trapped in homes and buildings. Scientists have long been concerned about the health risks of radon, and there is overwhelming proof that exposure to elevated levels of radon causes lung cancer in humans.

Special Called Fiscal Court Meeting

Third District Magistrate Chad Tyree

The Butler County Fiscal Court held a special called meeting on Tuesday evening. The purpose of the meeting was a work session concerning the County Personnel Policy and a possible nuisance ordinance. Present were Judge Executive David Fields, 1st District Magistrate Stevie Givens, 2nd District Magistrate Johnny Tuck, 3rd District Magistrate Chad Tyree, 5th District Magistrate Keith Daugherty, County Attorney Richard Deye,  and Road Supervisor Timmy West.

Butler County Native Releases New Book

Butler County native Shawn Childers' book, The Mormon Cleric Murder, has been released. Childers a Butler County High School graduate, has a bachelor's degree in information systems from Western Kentucky University. He has previously published four other books including his autobiography, "Don't Tell Me How the Story Ends", Life in the Spin Cycle" and "Earth Incorporated". He currently lives in Brownsburg, Indiana, a suburb of Indianapolis, with his wife, a college-age daughter and two cats.

New Shop In Town: Alley Katz

What began as an idea among friends has turned into a thriving new business in Morgantown. Alley Katz, located on the back side of Master One Tax Service, has a little bit of everything, whatever the occasion. The shop specializes in primitives, but also carries a wide selection of gift items.

Kathern Jennings, owner of Master One Tax Service, described Alley Katz as "a joint-effort between good friends and co-workers who wanted to open a gift shop in Morgantown."

Wreck on HWY 70

Emergency workers were dispatched to Hwy 70, Rochester Road this morning in response to a single vehicle accident.  Caleb Johnson (DOB 12/25/85) was traveling east on Hwy 70, hit a slick spot and flipped his 2008 red Toyota truck four times. Johnson was wearing his seat belt and walked away without injury.  Responding were Butler County EMS, Rescue, Morgantown Fire Department, and Butler County Sheriff Deputy Heath West.

Fairview Community Health Closing Morgantown Office

Effective February 28, 2013, Fairview Community Health will no longer be providing services in their Morgantown location.  All services and patients will be transferred to their clinics in Bowling Green.
 
They will continue to provide the same quality healthcare you have become accustomed to.  For appointments please call 270-783-3573 ext 1005.
 
The main clinic of Fairview Community Health is located at 615-7thAvenue in Bowling Green.  The office is located just off the corner of Chestnut Street and 7th Avenue.

Teacher arrested, facing charges

A local teacher is facing charges stemming from a January 7 incident in Logan County.  According to law enforcement sources, Bryant L. McClellan, (DOB 1/16/70) of 524 Russellville Road, Rochester, Kentucky, was arrested on January 7, 2013, in Logan County and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs (.08, second offense).
