Judge Fields Signs Arbor Day Proclamation

Butler County Judge Executive David Fields signed a proclamation declaring April 4, 2014, Arbor Day in Butler County and encouraged all citizens to participate in the observance of the day by planting trees to beautify the Commonwealth and to focus attention on the great natural resource—our forests.

Last Day of School May 30th, School Day Extended 27 Minutes

The Butler County Board of Education met in special session Tuesday night to determine when the last day of school will be and how to make up lost snow days.  Superintendent Scott Howard reported that newly passed state legislation waived the 170 day requirement for this school year but kept the 1,062 hours of instruction requirement.  Howard said that Butler County schools would reach the 1,062 hour mark on June 4, but schools could close on the originally scheduled date of May 30 if the Board added 27 minutes to each school day starting next week.

New tick disease causing a scare; bites causing meat allergies

An emerging meat allergy that is sweeping the southeast part of the country has come to Hancock County in Western Kentucky and the cause, according to allergists, is a bite from the Lone Star tick.

The alpha-gal allergy, as it's commonly known, is an allergy to galactose-alpha-1,3 galactose, a carbohydrate found in all mammals except humans and primates.

Beech Bend's Kentucky Rambler

The winner of Monday night’s NCAA men’s basketball championship will have its university flag flown atop a roller coaster in a friendly bet between two family-owned amusement parks.
Facing off for their home-state teams are Beech Bend Park and Splash Lagoon, Bowling Green, Kentucky and Quassy Amusement & Waterpark, Middlebury, Conn.
The stakes are high as the winning team’s flag will wave from the wood frame of the opposing park’s marquee roller coaster.

Stevie Givens Seeks Re-Election As First District Magistrate

I am Steve Givens and I am seeking re-election for First District Magistrate in Butler County.  I have been your First District Magistrate for the past 12 years, and hope to continue to do so for the next four years.  I enjoy serving on the Fiscal Court and helping to improve our community.  We have been working on several projects for next year that we are very excited about.

"Drive-Thru" at Lindsey's Market Lands Driver In Jail

Around 4:19pm on Wednesday afternoon a vehicle went through Lindsey’s Market on Hwy 79.  Michael L. Hutchison (DOB 3/1/81) of Oak Ridge Road, claims that a van stopped in front of him and he could not stop, so he left the road, went through the parking lot, and into the building.

Mrs. Kathy Goff, Assistant Superintendent wins award

Mrs. Kathy Goff, Assistant Superintendent for Warren County Public Schools was honored on Friday, March 28, 2014 by the Bowling Green Rights Commission.  The 2014 National Theme was “Women of Character, Courage, and Commitment”.  Mrs. Goff was nominated by Mrs. Juliet Banks.  The ceremony was held at La Gala in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Election 2014: Information

County Clerk Shirley E. Givens would like to remind citizens about important dates upcoming for the 2014 primary election.

The last day to register to vote in Butler County is April 21st.

Absentee voting will be held at the County Clerk’s office beginning May 5th, and will run through May 19th at 4pm.

Absentee voting registration deadline is May 13th.

Election workers are reminded that Election School will be April 24th at 5:30 in the BCHS Commons Area.

Election day is Tuesday, May 20th. The following candidates will be on the ballot...

Magistrates deal with personnel, pay bills at short meeting

Butler County Fiscal Court met in special session on Thursday, March 27th. The short agenda contained only for items for the attention of magistrates.

The Court gave approval to advertise for a relief operator for a relief ferry boat operator. The previous relief operator is now a full-time employee, precipitating the need for a new relief operator. The position will pay $10.50 per hour, and will be advertised in both Butler and Ohio counties.
