Kentuckians Touched by Organ Donation Featured on Kentucky Speedway Racecar

“Everyone always said she was very small, but mighty.  She was a very loving and caring person,” says Driver Joey Gase, of his mother, on FoxSports before finishing 5th at Talladega this May.  Joey’s mother, Mary Gase, died suddenly from a brain aneurysm, only a few months after Joey’s 18th birthday.  Knowing his mother’s passion and love for life, he made the valiant decision to save lives through organ donation.  In April of 2011, Mary Gase was able to save or heal 66 people.

FSA County Committee Nomination Period in Butler County Now Open

(Morgantown, Kentucky), June 24, 2015 –Butler County USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Charlie Singleton, announced that the nomination period for local FSA county committees began on June 15, 2015. Nomination forms must be postmarked or received in the Butler County FSA Office by close of business on Aug. 3, 2015.

"County Committees are unique to FSA and allow producers to have a voice on federal farm program implementation at the local level," said CED Singleton.

University of Kentucky Announces Dean's List

The University of Kentucky has released its Dean's List for the Spring 2015 semester.  A total of 6,001 students were recognized for their outstanding academic performance.

To make a Dean’s List in one of the UK colleges, a student must earn a grade point average of 3.6 or higher and must have earned 12 credits or more in that semester, excluding credits earned in pass-fail classes.  Some UK colleges require a 3.5 GPA to make the Dean’s List.

Chamber hosts Job Fair

The Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce and the Kentucky Career Center recently hosted a Job Fair at the Eva J. Hawes Building in Morgantown.  Eleven companies were represented including: Diacel-Safety Systems America, LLC, ARC Automotive, Ingram Brothers and Final Finish, Corvac Composites, LLC, Delta Faucet Company, Morgantown Care and Rehab, Blackhawk Composites, American Leather Direct, Inc., Kelly Services, Morgantown Freight, Inc., and McDonald’s of Morgantown.

Fiscal Court: Bids, Bills,and Boards

The Butler County Fiscal Court held its final regular meeting for June, and for Fiscal Year 2014-15 on Monday night. A short agenda awaited the squires, and all members of the Court were present.

One item of old business was on the agenda. The county pest control bid wasn't settled at the last meeting of the Court. At that meeting Richard Embry from E-Pest offered to match a bid submitted by Wheeldon. It was unclear at that time if bids could be matched. Embry also questioned if Wheeldon's bid covered all of the County's needs.

Butler Co. Students Named to WKU Spring 2015 Dean's/President's List

Below are the names of the Western Kentucky University students who were named to the Dean's and President's List for the Spring 2015 semester.

Students making the Dean's List have a grade-point average of 3.4 to 3.79 in a 4.0 scale. Students on the President's List have GPAs of 3.8 to 4.0 and are indicated by an asterisk (*). To be eligible for the either list, students must have at least 12 hours of coursework that semester. Also, students who list their information as "confidential" in TopNet will not be listed.

Section of KY 403 in Butler County to Temporarily Close with Detour

Bowling Green, Ky. (June 18, 2015)—A section of KY 403 in Butler County will be closed to thru traffic beginning Monday, June 22 and will remained closed until mid-August. The road will close near mile point 6 between Cool Springs Road and G Meredith Road. A detour utilizing Mooretown Road and G Meredith Road will be in place.

The closure is being done so a small bridge over a stream can be replaced. The project was awarded to Cambry Contracting Inc on May 4, 2015 in the amount of $393, 420.

Butler County Driver’s License office receives “Thank You” Popcorn from Organ Donor Awareness program

Butler County's  Driver’s License office was presented a large tin of gourmet popcorn by the Trust For Life in appreciation of above average participation in the state's organ donor awareness program during National Donate Life Month in April.
