New state laws go into effect June 24

FRANKFORT – Most new laws approved during the Kentucky General Assembly's 2015 regular session go into effect next week.

The state constitution specifies that new laws take effect 90 days after the adjournment of the legislature. The General Assembly’s 2015 session adjourned on March 25, making June 24 the day for new laws to take effect.

OPEN FOR BUSINESS: The Restaurant

There’s a new restaurant in town: The Restaurant has filled the vacated store front most recently occupied by Little Tokyo, which moved to Bowling Green: “It’s a nice burger place," said customer Nicholas Johnson, who had just finished his first meal at The Restaurant, and seemed positive about the new diner.  “The food was good,” added Johnson.  The waitress recommended the smoked pork chop.

BACK IN BUSINESS: Friendly Furniture reopens

“Stop in and say hello!” That was the message Bill Freedle, owner of Friendly Furniture, had for Morgantown. Freedle has a relaxed, open door way of doing things, and applies this philosophy deliberately to his business: “We originally opened 42 years ago [around] 1970…. Morgantown is still not a big town, but it was a lot smaller when we came here… things were so much different… for years we were the oldest, largest, most complete furniture store in the area… People came from everywhere…. We still have the same old phone number.

HEAVY LOAD: Trailer mishap with 47,000 pound steel coil gets interesting

What do you do when a trailer hauling a steel coil weighing 47,000 pounds breaks? That was the question the Ingram Brothers, Eric and Chase, had to figured it out Friday morning. Answer? Pick it up and pull another trailer under the coil.  Easier said than done, but with the help of Felts Towing, several great employees, and traffic control by the state highway department things worked out great.

School Board OKs trips,early graduation, and new teaching position

The Butler County Board of Education met in a regular session on Tuesday, June 9, at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the approval of various student events, special graduation for two students, and the addition of a teaching position at the learning center, among several other issues.
Under Student Support Services, there was a motion made to approve graduation for two students at the  Green River School. They would be graduating in less than four years, having received all of their credits.

Water Advisory Lifted for Morgantown Utilities Customers.

Morgantown, KY,- The boil water advisory for Morgantown Utilities customers has been lifted, with the exception of South Teddy Street.
If you live on South Teddy Street you will be notified individually, if you are still under an advisory.

The advisory was issued in an “abundance of caution” following shut down and connection to newly installed lines and valves on US 231, W GL Smith Street on June 11, 2015. The connection was completed.

City Council Sticks With "Bare Bones" Budget

The Morgantown City Council showed more optimism Thursday night than they did in last month’s meeting, but they still acted with caution in passing spending measures.

Butler County Grand Jury Indictments

The Butler County Grand Jury returned indictments against 14 individuals on June 9, 2015.  Arraignment date for all the individuals is, July 14, 2015 at the Butler County Courthouse.  Charges include rape, sodomy, burglary, assault, drugs, and flagrant non-support.
